The fuel pump may have died. Can you hear it turn on briefly, by turning the key to "on"? You may have to stand by the gas tank while someone turns the key to on. It should turn on for about 2 seconds and then stop, after pressurizing the fuel system. If you don't hear it, then check the fuel pump fuse. If the fuse is good, and the pump won't run, one needs to check that the fuel pump wire at the tank connector has battery voltage on it when the engine is cranking-then, you can assume the pump needs replacing.
If the pump is working and you have gas up to the engine, you would next check the ignition system. Start that by checking for spark on one of the spark plug wires.

SOURCE: CAR WILL NOT START

Plug an OBD II code reader in and you will most likely see that it has an issue with either the timing belt or the crank position sensor. either of these will cause you to stall/not start. If timing belt jumped teeth or knock sensor failed the car will either run rough or not start at all.

Try the ignition switch,

For the Crank sensor there is a small metal disc that mounts behind the sensor if that is cracked or dammaged or installed backwards you will get same results as if it wasn't Make sure the timing marks line up on your timing belt. www.kiatechinfo.com

SOURCE: 2000 kia sportage ex, 4 cyl.

Many of the Kia sportages have a problem with the coils.

There are 2 coils for each 2 cyl and they are located under the middle platic cap on the valve cover.

These coils will set a check engine light that blinks when misfiring and stays on steady when the motor is running smooth. Autozone or Advance auto have a scanner that can check all engine functions and will show a problem with # 2 and 4 cyl.

The coil packs are $39.00 to replace but check the codes first

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Optima no start after timing belt, crank, cam sensor replacement

did you use aftermarket crank sensor? if so that might be your problem. dealer has several different ones, by providing vin number, but there is only one after market for all optimas 01-05. try to connect thick pink wire and thick orange wire together on the ignition failure sensor. you might have the same problem as me. good luck.

My Kia Sephis keeps dying and wont start sometimes

That Engine fuse you are replacing is the engine fuse,The nearest ground that can short that out is the oxygen heater circuit of the catalytic convertor,it may be the oxygen sensor itself, but more than likely its the harness you will have to open the harness and inspect for a rub through wire

Not starting

mine did the same thing i got gas from flash foods and it had water in it it took 2 tank fulls of the high price gas and 2 hrs of cranking and pumping the gas to get it going then had to change my fuel filter twice it still acted up at times though you can drain ur gas in a jug thats what we did and found out we had water in gas it runs like a charm now.

I would check ignition items or fuel delivery if it just died on you. It wont be the battery unless it was dead and the alternator stop working.
