Driving down the freeway my vehicle started fartin and spitting all over itself. I lost power and slowed down to about 10 mph b-4 having to pull off the road. It putted it way home where it eventually died. I was able to start it after about 10 times but when giving it some gas pedal it would bog out at about 2 grand. Eventually it would not start at all. Had it towed to good year and after 4 days they along with hyundai couldn't figure out the problem. So i towed it back home and have been trying to figure it out with help online. This is what i've replaced from the advice, Mass air fow, throttle position sensor, camshaft postion sensor, plugs, wires, coils, fuel pump. The only thing that changed anything was the wires which it started for about 3 seconds then died again. Pulled the timing cover, the marks are in line, the belt is good with no missing teeth. The old fuel pump was as clean as a whistle with no screen blockage. the tank was like new with no floating dirt or setiment. I've aged ten years in 4 days and I need help.

HI......
OK. just follow the number on the ignition coils.
And the number on the cylinders are.
The FIREWALL side are 1,3,5, Starting from the belts location.
The RADIATOR side are 2,4,6, Starting from the belts location.
The coil with number 1 go to cylinder 1. as the same way the rest of the coils and cylinders.
OK... I hope this solve your question .
THank you for use fixya.

Sounds like the timming belt jumped or broke. A faulty crank sensor could also be at fault.
When asking a question about a problem with your vehicle you should always state your vehicles od reading and engine size, thanks.

Hi there. I can solve this dangerous problem you are having. You would loose acceleration at lights and intersections, the engine will shake and revs can go crazy. The issue is the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. It was recalled in 2001 as a safety problem as people died driving this model of sonata. If you connect your comp up to a diagnostic machine you will find its the MAF the problem is a problem that is hard to ctah on a diagnostic machine though as it comes and goes. You will need to replace the MAF ASAP as you can die from this fault and hyundai will not care due to the age of this car.

Not enough information.
Normally the first things one thinks of is clogged fuel filter, failed purge valve causing too much tank vacuum, water in the gas, or even PVC foam coating the air mass sensor.
But none of those things causes a gas smell.
I would then think of a leaking hose connection, bad plug wire, weak spark, etc.
However, we would need to see or smell where the gas odor was coming from?
A leak is extremely serious because it could cause a fire, but very easy to see and fix.
An ignition problem would be harder to see and would require looking for fouled plug that was not firing well.
So you need to open the hood and tell us more.
