I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 4x4. The issue I am having is the LOW FUEL LIGHT will come on and STAY ON even with a FULL TANK of gas. I have looked at several different sources and it seems they are all pointing to the "FUEL SENDING UNIT". Has anyone had this issue? And if so HOW HARD IS IT to REPLACE if possible or should I replace the Entire Pump?
If it is the fuel level sending unit you will have to replace the pump because they are a 1 piece assambly. it will be a task to change too as you will need to either remove the truck bed or drop the fuel tank to get to it.
it wont hurt the truck at all. is the guage working properrly? if so you have nothing to worry about. just dont let it run out of gas. if you let it run out of gas the pump will run non stop and burn up because it uses the fuel it pumps to cool itself. but if the guage is working i wouldnt worry about it. a new pump assembly runs about $280 and thats without labor.

Is this a very costly repair? and is it something that will hurt the truck if I just ignore and watch the mileage driven?
