An orange dashboard symbol stays on after engine has been started!! The symbol is barrel shaped with a short horizontal dash on top and a vertical dash on the left. I did not receive a hand book when I got the car so I'm at a loss. Any ideas would be welcome.

this is your check engine light it is lit because the computer has detected a fault and a trouble code has been stored. it starts flashing because this is current and damage to vehicle can result. need to have the codes pulled

Is it in the center of the dash or in the right corner? The one on the right is for the ABS. The one in the center is a general message. Using the read function on the signal stalk there will be an explanation of the light.

that would be your check engine light you will need to go to the dealer or a garage that has a scanner to read the code stored in the car computer . your car is now running in safe mode, which is not optimum performance.

Your car is most likely obd2 compliant (in the US everycar built after 1996 is) this means your check engine light could be on for a whole list of reasons, You will need an obd2 scanner to plug into the diagnostics connector to read the codes. Many times car parts places will let you use theres, hoping to sell you parts when you know what needs to be fixed. If the use of free one is not available you can probably buy one off of ebay for not too much. Use the code scanner, write down the codes and google them and/or buy a haynes manual that will explain how to do all these things.
