My 2004 Pontiac grand am is running very rough. At slow speeds it hesitates to accelerate. We replaced the spark plugs and wires, the o2 sensor, air filter, PVC valve.

Do you know if the plugs were changed, a bad or broken plug will also cause rough idle and slow acceleration?

SOURCE: 2004 pontiac grand am replaced O2 sensor, spark

Idle air control motor(IAC). EGR valve. And vacuum leaks to include the brake booster and if you have a plastic intake, that too. this is a start there are other things that will have the same symptoms. let me know

What is the cause of the acceleration hesitation and engine dying?

a simple test is to disconnect the vacuum hose to the brake booster and blank it off on the manifold side
if there is no problem, reconnect it and put your foot on the brake
if the problem is there --replace the brake booster
check all vacuum hoses including the vent controls and transmission actuator
if you haven't done it yet then run the fault codes for reports and that will tel you what should have been done first

04 Grand Prix Cut out / Hesitation on acceleration between 2k and 3k rpms but not at WoT. MAF replaced, plugs, wires, o2 sensor (rear), Cat tested @500 degrees on output, throttle body replaced, unplug...

Check for a vacuum or air leak. Possibly a hose or intake manifold. Odd that it runs better on default MAF settings with MAF unplugged, but if no codes indicating a circuit problem, IDK. Could be a vacuum leak.

I have a 00 pontiac grand prix gt and I dont know why my car hesitates when I am accelerating. Also I can feel and hear my engine bogging down like it wants to shut off esp when I am stopped or driving...

egr will only affect running at idle or slow speeds.under acceleration it can indicate poor tune-up components or even a partially plugged fuel filter not allowing enough fuel,or even a weak pump.a bad tps(throttle position sensor) can also act the same way, usually it will set a code, but not always.if it has a(maf) mass air flow sensor on this system it can cause the poor acceleration, again usually, but not always, will set a code in the computer.

I have a 2001 Grand Am 3.4l V-6. I have replaced spark plugs, wires and coil pack. Still has rough idle and hesitation during driving.

check the plug where the air intake connects to the engine. i had a loose connection in mine, it cost me an alternator that i didn't need. the wire also caused rough shifting.

2001 mercury grand marquis. Engine stutters or hesitates with jerking when lightly accelerating. Seems like an air, fuel, or spark delivery problem. At wide open throttle this problem is not as noticeable....

Start car and use a squirt bottle of water to wet the wires and coil, if you see it spark or run rough one or both are bad, repair the wires first as they are more common.
