Did you have code cleared and also try fuel injector cleaner, as a clogged or dirty injector can show as a misfire,

2002 protage 2.olt hasites under load but clears up after 3000rpm

You are dealing with a misfire. It clears up at 3000.RPM A jump timing belt can do this or a broken valve . Also a failed coil pack. Lets go with a failed coil pack.Because of the strategy that is used a failed on the engine smooth at 2000RPM (neutral) No. 1 and No. 4 are fire simutaneously and No. 2 and No. 3. simutanueously. with the engine running lift the plugwire to number 4 does the engine stumble if it does this is the working cylinder and there is nothing wrong go to number 3 you may have to use number 2 engine running wire pulled out does the engine stumble if there is no change you found the problem.Basically what yopu are doing is checking for spark at all the cylinders

Number one cylinder missfirer

This condition is the same that a P0301 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #1.

Symptoms may include:
the engine may be harder to start
the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0301 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
* If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

* If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this free answer).

1998 windstar 3.0 # 3 missfire code changed wires ,plugs, coil , injector, only code is missfire number three cat not plugged any ideas?

Head gasket could be blown allowing antifreeze to get into that cylinder and causing the plug to foul. Need to do a compression check and pay special attention to the cylinder at fault for low compression reading. If there is a head gasket bad, the two cylinders beside each other are usually low; also, you should see some drop in antifreeze if this is happening.

Error code p0303 cylinder 3 misfire My 2002 Ford Escape was in a front-end collision requiring the replacement of the radiator and cooling lines, etc. When it came back from the body shop the check engine...

It is possible that the wire may have been damaged and is arcing. Check the wire, may also be the plug. If that doesnt solve the issue it could be the ignition coil.
