Hi friend. I have a toyoto corolla 2009. Yesterday when I got into the car and turned the ignition on i noticed that the whole display box is lighted with the icons that are lighted when you turn in the key for the first time. In other words when U turn the keys 1 time the display is lighted with a couple of icons right, and when you start the car by turning it twice, these icons disappear right -- in my case when i turned on the cars the icons from the firts turn stayed on lighted (icons on the right side under the seatbelt flshing with a (!) and the battery icon with + and - displayed and the icon that looks like a 1970s' camcorder on the left side of the panel. These usually get lighted when you just turn on the car to listen to music, etc. But when you start the car these disappear right. But these stayed on yesterday. I called my husband from the parking lot yetserday and he said it is not possible. I could however drive back home. And when I reached home and turned off the car and turned it on again, it was gone. My husband thuought I was bluffing him (thats a different story!). We didnt use the car after that. Now my keys wont even open the car. I have a spare set, which is also working fine like the regular one as the red light display comes on at the keys. But the car doesnt open. Neither do I hear the sound of the car unlocking. Whats happening, please.
You need to replace the car battery.
Testimonial: "thanks michael. i called the service center and they told me about the car keyhole and about how to manual check if its the battery problem. And the car wont even get started. The told me I need to replace the car battery too. Thanks for your prompt help. Cheers, H"

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

The CHECK (check engine) light can account for a hundred plus different failures on a modern vehicle. It is there to let you know of failures in the emissions or drivetrain systems of your car.
Essentially it can be as simple a bad gas cap or as complex as internal transmission part failures. You will need to take it to a repair shop or an auto parts store to have the diagnostic code scanned to get an idea of what is wrong. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.
The light can go out by itself if the problem goes away, but can take a very long time. Certain codes will take over 250 drive cycles without a problem detected before they clear.
If the light is lit solid, it is typically fine to drive until you can get it diagnosed. If the light is FLASHING, however, it indicates a misfire so great that severe engine damage may occur. If the light is FLASHING, turn the car off and have it towed to prevent damage.
