2000 pontiac sunfire fuse box problems

My car won't crank up the fuse box (the fuel pump rely) would sometimes need to be taped down in order for it to start. Or I would have to mess with the wires underneath the steering wheel on the lift side in order for my car to start. Now it no longer works. I guess it's something wrong with the pron on the inside of the box.

SOURCE: 2001 pontiac sunfire fuel pump wiring problem

I don't think its your fuel. Usualy we connected the kill switches to the ignition or power to the spark plugs. Just to make sure you can buy a can or 2 of brake clean thats what is call. you can buy it in autozone cragens or any autostore. When it does that problem that it doesn't want to start. remove the plastic hose that goes to your intake and spray a little while cranking(trying to start) if starts than your on the right track if it has no change you should start looking power for your spark plugs

SOURCE: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire Fuel pump not working

check and see if you have an emergency shut off in the trunk. it will be on either side of the finder wall. it is there in case you get in a accident. the button pops up. make sure the button is in all the way. that shut off might be your problem.

SOURCE: 1996 PONTIAC SUNFIRE HORN JUST

Check the fuse for the horn.
Check the wires have not just come loose on the horn.
Next, if you have a volt meter, disconnect the horn, and connect the wire for the horn to the meter.
Have someone press the horn button.
If you have a reading of 12 volts or better, the horn is dead, if you have a reading of less than 12 volts, the the horn relay is likely faulty.
That is the item that is clicking as you reported. Just because it is clicking does not mean it is passing power through.

Hope this helps

On first crank fuel pump doesnt hold pressure and has to be cranked on for several seconds

sounds like its not working properly, the fuel pump pumps or it does't, then goes to regulator this is where pressure is adjusted. check fuel pressure with gauge, sometimes even new fuel pumps don't pump enough fuel. most fuel injected cars have over 50 pounds pressure.

How do you fix a fuel pump on 2000 Pontiac Sunfire? Well, I think that is what the problem is...the car turns over but won't start. (battery is new and the starter is fine) It seems like it's not getting...

Yes - that relay could cause your problem. Remove relay and replace with a like numbered relay from the relay box if you have one - if not, buy replacement relay and test. If that doesn't work then the fuel pump is in the gas tank and you'll have to remove ( or at least lower ) the tank to replace. Make sure you empty the tank as best as possible before loosening straps - they are very heavy when partially full. Even 1/4 tank is hefty and difficult to manage. It is also possible your fuel filter is plugged and should be replaced when doing a pump assembly as well as the plastic sock on the pump assembly.

Hello mcammdf.
To properly test the fuel gauge circuit you will need to check the purple wire at the connector to the fuel tank.
Run a wire from the purple wire at the connector to body ground. If the gauge moves when you ground it the circuit to that point is good.
These cars are noted for fuel gauge problems and most probably the issue will be the sending unit in the fuel tank.

Car want crank over

This is Caused by the Fuel Pump. If you remove the Fuel Pump relay and it will try to Crank, You have a Bad Fuel Pump. I do Believe that the Fuel Pump is located inside the Fuel Tank on the Sunfire. Not an easy Repair But, Necessary

2004 Pontiac Sunfire Does crank position sensor control fuel pump?

no, when you turn key on you should hear pump run for 2-3 seconds, if not check fuses, then if fuses are good have someone tapped fuel tank with rubber hammer as key is turned on, if fuel pump runs after tapping tank, replace fuel pump
