My 98 dodge ram 1500 4x2 ...5.2l,stalls immediatly after i revv it up in nuetral? any ideas as to what would cause this? it also happens if i am at a dead stop put it in reverse and say for instance back over a curb,it dies.. it has a new fuel pump, plugs, wires, all the usual tune up stuff!
You might have a bad torque converter lockup switch
Try a new TPS (throttle position sensor)
I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and it would idle when it was cold but when it warmed up it would stall. Even in neutral when revving it and it would just stall. It`s a $60 part that goes in very easily, 2 screws and a clip. Its located on the right side just unfer the air filter (looking at the truck from the front)
My old sensor (so I found out) has been going out for the last 2 years and none of the mechanics around could find out what it was so I ignored it until I took it in to a different mecahnic. The old sensor threw off the idle so much it was idleing at 950. The new sensor is now showing the actual idle at 400 rpm so I`m going to adjust that.
and on the tranny its called a lock out sensor but it most comon to unplug this lock out sensor and if your tranny shifts fine then and does not stall out then your fine tell your local tranny machanic you have the problem with the tranny lockout sensor but thats only for shifting problems not so much to do with the engine running but the other is to be replaced Idler sensor tps !

I have a '97 Ram 1500 4x4 with the same problem. It's a 5.2L. with a manual transmission. I can keep it running by playing with the accelerator, but when I rev it and take my foot off the accelerator, it dies.
electrontric problem on your throttle body or bad injector or electrical coil if you have a coil over each of your spark plugs it will run like you are miss firing and stalls out at idles ! or timing belt or timing chain issue but first check injectors by adding a bottle of rubbing achole to a 3/4 of a tank of gas run it for atleast an hour or so then if that does not help then try checking out your coil packs if theres no bad coil packs then it could be a maf or map sensor control module wich lets the computer know how much air is going through and the computer tells the module to send more air to your throttle body or carb or can be a trottle body issue also recheck your firring order on your engine !
