SOURCE: transmission wont get into overdrive or reverse.

sounds like a 700r4 tranny thats usually what happens when they decide to quit you loose overdrive and reverse. About 900 to 1000$ to rebuild.

SOURCE: Transmission fluid flushing

In normal situations people do not flush their trannys. Your would normally just lower the pand and change the filter and replace the fluid that came out. If you are not having a problem with your tranny this is what I would suggest. As the fluid gets older the tranny gets "used to" the old oil that is in there. When you add new fluids the new fluid contains detergents that clean the internal parts as they circulate. Unless this is the first time you've been to the recommended mileage for changing the fluid (I.E. 30,000 miles) you could flush it. If you do not know the history of changes, or if you are at, lets say 100,000 miles I wouldn't recommend flushing it. When the new detergents clean out the parts they remove gunk that is actually helping the transmission. Don't get me wrong, you don't want a whole lot of gunk, but you also don't want to remove gunk that for example is holding a pin in place, so the pin falls out (just an example) I hope this wasn't too hard to understand, and I hope I answered your question.

Trans acts like it's in nutreul and the speedometer will to zero

Why Is My Automatic Transmission Slipping? If you have an automatic transmission and it "slips" while you are driving it-that is, the car engine revs without the power going to the wheels-the most common cause (though not the only possible cause) is low transmission fluid. If the slipping is caused by low fluid, it will get worse as the transmission gets hotter.
Why Is My Manual Transmission Slipping? A standard ("manual") transmission uses fluid too, but leaks aren't a common issue; a standard transmission could lose all its fluid and never slip at all, though eventually it would lock up while driving down the road. If you have a standard transmission, and it's slipping-the engine revs but it doesn't transmit power to the wheels-the problem is usually in the clutch.
Further down in the article I discuss how to diagnose this problem.

2004 After about a mile of road travel, why does transmission begin to slip?

Usually a transmission slipping isn't due to the drive shaft, but the transmission itself. I know this might sound a like a crazy question, but have you checked the transmission fluid levels, could be a leak, if not full would cause slippage.

Why is my transmission not shifting into drive and overdrive

Either the transmission is shot completely or the filter is clogged and needs replacement and new fluid added

Transmission over drive is causing the transmission to slip. When I take off the overdrive the transmission functions normally but it uses much more gas.

Roger, that doesn't even make a whole lot of sense to me. If the overdrive is causing the transmission to slip, wouldn't it also cause the fuel mileage to go down? Are you sure the transmission is slipping? Or is the transmission simply shifting in and out of overdrive? If it is, is it shifting at the proper speeds? Driving at around 40 - 50 Mph will sometimes make the transmission go in and out of overdrive repeatedly. This can be perfectly normal.

Have you checked your transmission fluid level?

Is your overdrive off light flashing? If the transmission is actually slipping the OD OFF light should be blinking at you to let you know there is a transmission problem. Either that, or the Check Engine light will be coming on. In either of these cases, you need to scan your onboard computer network for possible fault codes.
