Replaceing valve cover gaskets on 1994 maxima

Here is a photo of the vacuum diagram of a 1994 Maxima vg30.

is it a vg30 or a vq30? domestic or import?

theres couple bolts on the valve cover prbly 10 take them off then pull valve cover then new new valve cover gasket on make sure scrap old gasket from valve cover and head so not to have a leak put all back togethor

Bring the vehicle to a transmission repair shop. There they will scan it for codes and pressure test it to see whats effecting its shifting.
I would take a guess and say its the shift solenoids
or vehicle speed sensors. However, without conducting the testing these are just guesses.

On the DOHC: The Spark Plug Tube Seals (Washers) on the Valve Cover has developed a leak.
Install new seals.
Remove the Valve Cover to Install the Seals.
If the Valve Cover Gasket have not been replaced recently, go ahead and replace them as well, making sure you clean thoroughly BOTH surfaces before installing any new Seal Washers and Gasket.

there is no interchangable trans for your model year maxima. you can install only maxima trans build in your model years. I think that was 1991-1994. also the engine configuration has to be the same as yours. nissan made your model maxima with 2 different engines. one model had VG30 engine and the other had VE30. two different engine models. you need to match it with yours.

REPLACE VALVE COVER GASKET AND O-RINGS AROUND EACH HOLE INSIDE VALVE COVER TO PREVENT OIL FROM ENTERING. LEAKING FROM SEALS AROUND VALVE COVER TO SPARK PLUG PORT GASKET OR O-RING

REMOVE THE INTAKE. ROUGHLY 2.2 HOURS FOR THE JOB. ORDER THE VALVE COVER GASKETS WITH GROMETS.

Which engine is this VE30DE or VG30. You can tell by looking at the valve covers. (but by what you are descibing you have the VE30DE) If the valve covers are red in color, than it's a VG30 with a timing belt. If the valve covers are BIG aluminium ones , than that's a VE30DE engine with timing chains. Or if your speed goes to125MPH than its a VG30 , but if it goes to 145MPH than its the VE30DE (24 valve dual overhead cam with variable timing control) Let me know what you have and we will take it from there.

Maximas had a timig belt until 1994. Some Maximas from 1992-1994 had chains also, but only the VE30DE models. All VG30 models had timing belt. Since 1995 all maximas (A32, A33, A34 the all new A35) have timing chains and the rarely/never fail. In fact in my 12+ years with nissan, I have't seen/replaced single timing chain in a Maxima, so pretty bullet proof setup and I have had few of those cars and have one right now. Awesome cars, by the way, just keep up with the oil changes and it will run forever. One of my Maximas had 245000 miles, when I was selling it and I still see it on the road here and there. BULLET PROOF engines.
