Hi... I have a 2008 Vw 1.4i mk1 golf. the car is over fueling and refuses to idle. We have run a diagnostic test and said to change "lambda sensor", wich we located removed it and put in a new one. Thereafter checked the fuel pressure, was fine. Checked the engine compression and gearbox & camshaft timing, and it is fine. The distrubutor timiming is also right. Please help as i have to remove the computer box which is riveted under the dashboard and seems impossible to remove. Thanks
Hi.
If your fuel pressure is good, timing is good, and compression is good, it is very possible that your ECM, (Engine Control Module) is bad. The computer is not properly modulating the pulse width on the injectors. The pulse width is too wide/long causing the injectors to dump too much fuel. In short, the injectors are staying open too long. Check your connections on your ECM to make sure there are snug. Try removing your battery terminals, unplug the ECM connectors for a few minutes and then plug the ECM back in, reconnect the battery terminals and try it again and see if this helps. If this does not work the ECM is more than likely bad. Hope this helps.

Hi, This Might have nothing to do with your problem, but you have nothing to loose by the sounds of it, the breather pipe from the bottom of the sump (behind the starter motor) to the top of the rocker box, mine was clogged up with slug like greese causing sencer problems and giving false information to the computer. (running rought) you got nothink to loose, try it.

Don't "wash" the motor, like you wash the outside. Did you pressure wash it? God people are too freakin anal retentive and go screwing up their engines. Next time use engine cleaner and try not wet any wiring harnesses or anything electrical. You probably killed a sensor connection or something.

it starts from cold because the auto choke is on ,allowing a richer mixture ,try removing the sender unit in the tank and seeing if the connection from the pump to the outlet connection is ok or leaking causing a loss of fuel pressure
SOURCE: mk1 vw golf cabrio: hot starting problem?
Probably the starter needs to be replaced. If it was the battery, you would have more problems cold than hot.
