Since Dodge decided to place all of the fuel components together, it's pretty easy. If you have a low fuel pressure issue, drop the tank and replace the module. The pump, pressure regulator, and filter are all contained in one module inside of the tank.
For fuel filter replacement. The gas tank does NOT need to be removed. After removing the rear (second row) seats and carpet, the fuel filter and pump are reached through a screwed on access cover in the floor. Draining the tank isn't necessary. A special spanner wrench is needed to remove the filter/pump assembly.
This filter replacement looks relativly easy, even following safty precautions and system pressure relief, and a less then $20.
these are easy take the belts and fan shroud off and fan off take off the water pump save your anti freeze pu a pan under the area of the pump on the ground as to not make a mess , remove the 4 bolts that hold it on watch the seal or gasket , you have to replace that but make sure you get it off all unless it is a seal ring type but change it also , if it is a ring gasket put a little oil or something so it goes into the hole easy put it back together , look on youtube , should be there they are pretty easy
Well I released my pressure by pushing in the valve near the injectors under the hood. Make sure your engine is cold when doing this. Only a quick spray then its relieved. I unbolted my bed and jacked it about 5 inches and was able to change my 94 ram fuel pump. Pretty easy this way as those straps may need to be eplaced if removed. I did this 2 years ago. Maybe to an hour or 2. But if your truck has been sitting yow may want to drop the tank to clean it out.
loosen one fuel line to one of the injectors, try to start the truck and look for the fuel to spray out of the line. it should spray rather hard if the injector pump is working right. if it just dribbles or trickles out you have a weak pump.
You did not say if lift pump was delivering, so I am assuming it is not. When you pulled the fuel filter, was it full / under pressure? If not, lift pump most likely the problem. cracked fuel lines in system may also be the cause. I rec. replacing lift pump, if that does not solve problem, look for cracks / breaks in fuel line prior to lift pump.
