04 pontiac sunfire battery light and panel lights dim

I just changed my battery and replaced the starter on my 04 pontiac sunfire. now the battery light is on and the panel lights are dim. dome light is good and headlights are good. radio works. car starts great

this ismy daughters car and I just went out to see what was actually going on. The car starts great. Once you turn on the lights then a battery looking light on the lower right side of the panel comes on and the instrument panel lights are very dim. the headlights and dome lights are strong. headlights do not dim when the car is put into gear. would it still be the altenator?

Sounds like your alternator. if you have a multimeter then turn on your car and turn your headlights on/ac and heater fan on high/wipers on and blinkers on. once they are all on hook the meter to the battery and if it reads less then 14 volts then the alt is bad. or you can just take it to a shop and have it tested.

yes it could still be the problem but it requires testing. just because they are strong doesnt mean they will stay strong for along time. alot of alternators are going bad but are ran for a long time but you might not notice especially if you dont use alot of the power stuff. i would check it first though and go from there.

My pontiac sunfire wont turn on i alredy change the battery and altarnator what can it be

With out knowing more of your symptoms it is hard to say. Turn on your head lights for a second and make sure they are nice and bright, This tells you two things, you have power in you battery and you have a good connection to the car. Next with the headlights turned on try starting the car, have someone watch the headlights to see if they dim when the car tries to crank. If the headlight intensity does not change and you don't hear an audible clicking sound coming from under the hood check to see that the shifter is in park or clutch is fully depressed. If that is ok you are likely looking at a ignition switch problem or the starter itself is bad. Can you tell me if the dash lights up or if you hear the car go click when you try to start it?

Car does not start .. ignieshion clicks..

cHECK BATTERY TERMINAL, THEY SHOULDS BE CLEAN AND TIGHT. If that dont help, Have battery and alternator checked, if not the battery couold be starter or starter solenoid, easy way to check, turn onb headluights, have someone watch lights, turnkey to start, if lights dim or go out its the battery, if they stay bright the roblem is in the starting system

I would check the Maxi-Fuses, you may have blown the main fuse.

My pontiac sunfire keeps draining the battery. does anybody have a solution for my problems

Do you have an ammeter or know someone that does? You need to do a parasitic draw test to fix it.

2001 pontiac sunfire wont start

I have had the exact same problem. There is an ignition lock that probably went off. There is a fuse box under the hood. The fuse that says ignition on it pull it out and put it back in. This should reset the ignition lock. Its a safety feature because the car thinks that someone was trying to tamper with it.
