Hey Soobies. My '88 XT6 (2wd), recently started having severe idleing problems
after it's been sitting for a few hours. It'll rev up a little on that first
key turn, then immediately the revs fall and it cuts off. To get around this
I've been holding the accel down to about 2K rpms for a minute or so. Then
it's fine. Also it really hesitates sometimes during the first few minutes of
driving.
I've had it tuned, had the injectors cleaned, and had the switch changed that
tells the car if it's cold outside or not (forgot what that one's called). I
love the car, but I can't stand this problem. Even the dealer is stumped.
Suggestions?
Got a problem just after startup, it starts fine, then runs very rough for about a minute. Not even enough power to get moving. Then all of a sudden it clears and everything is fine. I've changed the fuel filter, checked fuel lines, no problem there but the startup problem persists. Any hints appreciated !

i had the same problems about a year ago i took it to my buddies shop hook up the computer and it coded the distributor had gone bad it usually runs about a 400-500 dollars to get it replaced.
if the car just wine's when starting like it would normally and nothng is happening...Check for fuel, either find the fuel pressure relief valve near the rear of the engine, and depress the valve stem (fuel should hit the roof of hood) if not then its a fuel problem, try this a couple times, but turning the key over, and listen for noise from the gas t ank to see if the pump is actuating.. if you hear the noise while just turn the keyy to acc, not start plz comment back that you hear it , but its still doesnt start....
hope this fix's-ya!
Hey have you recently changed your head unit. I have a 2000 s10 2.2 and i recently hardwired my pioneer 4000ub head unit and the security light came on upon not starting. every time you try to start the car while the security light is on it will add 10 minutes onto your time. For the security light not to come on you need to check your wiring. just remember dont keep trying becuase it wont work!!! find the problem and fix it.
