The middle link in my exhaust pipe is slightly bent and making a very anoying rattle. After taking it all apart I found the flange that houses the bolts is bent. Is there a way to repair this without replacing pipes or trying to bend it back to the correct shape. I was thinking some sort of gasket to act as a spacer but I have over 1/8 in. of space to fill. Sugestions? Thank-x!
Jones.

It often means that you are burning antifreeze. You asked if it needs antifreeze, have you noticed any leaking out of the reservoir tank while you are running it? Sometimes when the head gasket goes it will produce a passage for the antifreeze to pass from the capillaries into the combustion chamber. It is easy to check if you have an air compressor. Remove one of the rear sparkplugs and the radiator cap. Fill the radiator and then push some air into the sparkplug hole (get a good seal in case a valve is open). Repeat with all the cylinders and watch for air bubbles coming up into the radiator. If bubbles come up or fluid is pumped out, the head gasket is blown and must be replaced. It is more likely to happen at the back of the engine because it is farthest away from the fan and therefore gets less cooling. Also check your oil for discoloration. If it is a brownish color it could mean your oil and antifreeze are mixing and has the potential to damage your bearings

It is called a warm up tube. It's purpose is to keep the CARB or Throttle plate area from icing up.
I have witnessed icing at 45 degrees (measured) ambient temprature. The low pressure surrounding the throttle plate(s) makes the area very cold.
If you do not have this tube, or the controls for it are not working, you get wierd stalling, or over rich conditions...Turn car off for few minutes (7-11 stop for example) and restart car...pretso, runs and idles perfect...

Is this a gear box problem?\r\n Also, my tiing belt and two fan belst were done recently and now they squeal on start up then go away. Is this a contimination problem of the belts or are they to loose? regards."

That round mushy metal gasket is called an exhaust donut gasket. You should replace it as it might be deformed now and not seal. Yes you need to use the spring loaded bolts. They are used so that the exhaust system can flex when you accelerate and not lose its seal.

There's a Cadalitic Converter gasket made for a mid-80's Honda that is an exact match for this joint on the exhaust. Disconect the pipes (use heat to break bolts if they're frozen or rusted) and put the gasket on, no need for any sealant. You may need to get longer bolts to compensate for the extra space taken by the gasket. The whole fix will cost under $10 if you can find the right gasket.
