More than a year ago the power locks stopped working. this was not a great problem. i was able to open the driver side door with the key and could manually lift and push down the locks on other doors. the alarm did not seem to work or care at all. this morning i opened unlocked the door...opened it..closed it..and when i started the car the alarm went off.
after disconnecting the battery it went off. after reconecting when i open the unlocked door..the alarm goes off. any suggestions? anything? I do not care if the alarm works or not.
First to turn off the alarm you simply put the key into the drivers door and turn it to unlock the door twice, this is the factory setting to turn off activated Volkswagen alarm. As for the power locks they are air activated, in the trunk near the latch there should be a small electric motor that drives a small air pump with air lines running to all your locks. If this electric motor as worn out your locks will not operate, simple fix replace the motor. I'd try a used one first from a scrap yard to make sure but always check to see if there is power to the motor (you will need another person with a test light to perform this job). Let me know if this works. Vdubs 4-ever !
The security system/autostart/electric locks, etc, are all on the same wiring and the wiring is obviously defective/malfunctioning as it causing your electric locks to malfunction and your alarm to go off. I also had a Canadian tire autostart with security system installed into my car and had all sorts of problems from the ignition fuses blowing, to the automatic locks not working, and the alarm system going off everytime I started the car...all this started a year or two after having it installed. I had the autostart removed and the locks are now working, and I am no longer stealing my own car everytime I start it.
