SOURCE: where are timing marks for

The 3Y is a Toyota engine used in the Rocky/Rugger.
Setting up valve timing you need to set the no.1 cylinder on TDC on the compression stroke.
Turn the crank until the piston is at the topmost point of its travel. Determine this by inserting a plastic or wood dowel in the plug hole and watching it travel upward. Be careful that it does not snag.
At TDC the mark(see red arrow on diagram) on the crank sprocket will be at the lowest point(If the sprocket has been removed the set key -see blue arrow- will be at the topmost point)
Turn the camshaft so that the set key is at the topmost point and aligns with the mark on the engine. If the sprocket has not been removed, remove it now.
On the timing chain you will find 2 links that are lighter in color than the others. These 2 links have to be aligned with the marks on the sprockets before refitting the sprockets to the shafts.

SOURCE: i have a 1979 mitsubishi

Ouch...if this is an interference engine the engine may be permanantly damaged. The haynes manual at autozone has the procedure in it you will need this book.$20.00

2004 mitsubishi outlander 2.4 litre how do you get the timing right again after belt broke repaired head putting back together today and need to know what to do to get all points of timing right so I

The compression stroke is relative to the head (actually the position of the valves), so TDC is all the same on the block, the lower end. Just line it up at TDC on #1.

Have you checked for bent valves or broken pistons? If the timing belt broke while it was running, and you have an interference engine, there could be damage from a piston touching a valve.
I don't know if that 2.4L engine is an interference motor. google it to find out. I don't think the position of any mark on the oil sprocket makes any difference.

Truck turns over but I'm not getting any spark

take out the distributor cap. is the rotor turning, yes, no no then the timing belt is broken. Okay now let say you crank it and the distributor does turn. put the cap back on. lets check for pwer at the coil if you dont have a test light get a wire a long one wire not a cable. okay identify the positive port of the coil it will be mark with a (+) sign that means positive now connect it to the (+) positive of the battery and have some on crank it . you should have spark.... what still no spark okay youll need a ignition module.

How do I set the Balance Belt & Cam Timing Belt on a Mitshubishi 4g63 16v 2.0l sohc engine please?

tdc @ 1cyl. cam shaft has triangle stamp mark on face of the gear.both valves for # 1 should be closed in compression stroke and triangle should be pointing at left side top of head(9 o'clock) on the silent shaft and oil pump pulleys both marks must align with each other , use a metal rule for a straight edge.it would be wise to purchase a haynes manuel for your vehicle.this manuel gives you illustrations and step procedures to align all components on your g63b engine ....chris

Have a 1985 Mitsubishi Montero sport with a 4 cyclinder/how can I tell what motor that is" Just bought it for a project. And it won't start. Previous owner took off disitributor cap/and front of motor

This vehicle only came with a 2.6 liter 4 cylinder. To verify this look on the dasboard through the windshield on the driver's side towards the bottom and you will see a long number. The 8th digit from left to right should be an "E". That means it is a 2.6 liter motor.Good luck
