1985 toyota extracab 22r-e cranks but won't start

No fuel pump sound, can't find fuel pump relay, fuse is good, do I need test light or can I use a voltmeter to test wires

going out there now to try it, thanks, moparownr!

  • rufus181 Mar 25, 2009

Well, I applied currentdirectly to pump, bypassing the wiring circuit and got a whining sound. Next, guess I'll try the pump with an open gas line and see if any gas comes out.?? maybe the screen is too full of crud.

I checked the wires and they are good but two of the sensors on the drivers side(they look like yellow connectors) only read 100 and 110 with the ommeter and not all the way to the far end. I think I will stick a bypass wire in both of them and see if I can get the gas pump to run. Would this work?

As long as your volt meter is capable of measuring OHMS you can test wires, find the main power wire to the fuel pump and measure for voltage when you turn the key on(3-4 sec) if power is present at the fuel pump, and the pump don't run, then replace it

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2009

if the pump runs while bypassed, you need to trace the wires back and find out where you do not have power at causing it not to run while in circut

I have changed fuel pump and filter,on my 1988 toyota truck and it will start but won't run.It has 22r motor

Check the 15 amp fuse on your EFI. It's the bottom one close to door post. The fuse tab on mine melted and was not making contact so I cut the wires from the fuse panel and put female ends on them to accept a fuse. Works fine. I've been building these Toyota Pickups with 22R and 22RE for what feels like a 100 years. I even have a new engine I put 125 miles on still on the engine stand here in my garage. Lot's of spare parts too. I've pulled 7 of them apart in the past just to keep one on the road. You can't find them any more.

I have a 03 Hyundai accent I just replaced the fuel pump I have no power to the fuel pump I've checked the fuses and the fuel pump relay it won't start I'm not sure what to do next

Do you have a test light? If not, go buy a cheap $5 test light-one with a lead to clip to a ground, and with a needle type probe.
Pull the fuel pump relay out of the terminals it is plugged into-you need to check if the power feed for the pump is still available at the relay. Clip the test light lead to a ground and touch the test probe to the positive battery post-to check that your ground is good- tester should light up. Now touch the probe to all of the terminals that the relay plugs into. One terminal should have power with key off. If no terminals have power, you have lost the power feed for the pump. Double check all your maxi fuses in the power distribution box. Either a maxi fuse or a fusible link will be the power feed for the fuel pump relay.
If the power feed is there at the relay, try a new relay. If still no pump, a shop will probably have to check your fuel pump circuit.
Did you check for power at the fuel tank while the key was held in crank? When the engine is cranking, the fuel pump wire should have power. When the key is turned to on, the fuel pump should have power for about 2 seconds, to pressurize the fuel system. Then when key is turned to crank or start, the fuel pump should stay on.

85 Toyota Pick Up 22R (carb) not getting spark

Sounds like a crank sensor to me. I believe this will be found just below your bottom pulley [ crank pulley] . This is responsible for getting power to the coil. These are sometimes hard to get out . I just broke it off and used a socket. I don\'t know how you can test this sensor unless you have a wire test kit. I am not positive on this, but I\'m pretty sure. It sure sounds like it. Let me know how you make out.

How do you test the fuel pump relay on a 1991 Toyota Celica 1.6 Car just died and won't crank. We changed the ignition coil and still won't crank. Fuel pump is working. Toyota place does not check...

If the car will not crank then you have a battery, cable or starter issue. If the car will crank but not start then the problem may be the fuel pump relay. There should be an electrical diagram on the side of the relay. Apply 12v to either side of the coil and you should here a click. Then check for continuity between the other two terminals with voltage applied. If you have no continuity then the relay is bad.

My corvette doesnt want to start because theres no power going to the fuel pump fuse.

I am looking at alldata , the schematics for the fuel system. I see a fuse in the fuse block(10 amp) that comes from the fuel pump relay to the pump. I see a fuseable link (link H)that goes through a oil pressure sending unit. I would get a test light and test the oil pressure sending unit, the inline fuseable link and the relay. If still no power check the connection at the pump and then work backwards testing the harness.

Cranks but no start

There is no fuel reset button on this van.

To test the circuit before removing the tank, you will need a voltmeter or cheap test light. Disconnect the connector at the fuel tank. On the harness side, locate the gray wire (fuel pump wire). Connect the test light to a good ground. Have a helper crank the engine over. While engine is cranking, the gray wire should have power. If it does, and the pump is not turning on, then the pump must be bad and need replacing. If there is no power on the gray wire with engine cranking, the circuit is the problem, not the pump. Go back and find the fuel pump fuse in the junction block (the fuse relay block where the fuel pump relay is). Check the fuse, also check if there is power going to the fuse. This fuse should be hot at all times. The circuit goes from battery to pump fuse to fuel pump relay to gas tank and the fuel pump.
