The light will go off by itself as soon as the problem that turned it on is no longer present, it resets everytime you turn the key off and goes through a self test when you drive the car again, if the problem is still there it turns the light back on. Have the ABS system tested for trouble code's
ok try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes, but it should turn itself off if the problem is fixed, and the repair shop should kmow that. If it comes back on after the batt disconnect then u have a problem still in the ABS system.ok try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes, but it should turn itself off if the problem is fixed, and the repair shop should kmow that. I would disconnect the negative cable on the battery so it can reset the abs module, on these cars when you change the battery you need to have a 12 volt supply connected to your lighter before you disconnect the battery so there will be no reset on any of the modules in this vehicle.. if that don't do the trick you need to scan the abs system to see if you have any hard codes or just to reset it with the scanner.. abs is for antilock brake system and tc is for traction control they both work out of the same module
Resetting the ABS light is usually done by erasing the code. Using a scan tool is best. Sometimes disconnecting battery might work, and sometimes radios become not operable when done this way. Needing a radio reset code may be needed if this happens. See dealer or owners manual if this happens. It explains everything.
Some vehicles it will go out when you fix the issue and just drive the car around completely repaired.
Whenever
this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating
that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of
lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected
a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM,
SRS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must
now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and
"scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the
problem(s)

The vehicle may just need to be reset by a shop with an ABS Scanner. Have the system scanned and reset; at that time you will find out if there are actually any error codes in the system.
If it's a 2.5 or 3.0 then probably a rear ABS sensor ring will have broken. You need a new CV joint for whichever side it is (not the complete half-shaft, despite what a garage/dealer may tell you). Cost is around £90 for parts, £70 for labour. The car can be driven in the meantime but ABS will not work and you may lose cruise control and even the speedo until it is fixed.
The engine light needs 3 complete cold-hot-cold engine cycles before it will reset itself, although a decent OBD II code reader can reset it immediately.
If you took this in and had BMW do the work to fix it and it is not fixed why do you not return to BMW and get it fixed, If you have paid for a repair and the repair did not solve the problem have them refund your money.
The ABS light will stay on only when a problem exists. Once repairs have been completed and no problems exist the ABS light will go off on it's own. Take the car back to where you had the work done and have them fix it. It shouldn't cost you anything. If the ABS light was not "on" when you took the car to them, DO NOT let them charge you to fix it. They caused the problem. They can fix it. Good luck. Hope this is helpful.
with an abs light on it means the antilock brake system is disabled and therefore your brakes could lock up in an emergency braking situation other than that your brakes will work normally. the antilock brake system works on signals from tone rings and sensors that sense if any wheel is slipping locking up or losing traction, there is also a brake pressure modulator. you should be able to pull the codes for the abs auto parts stores should be able to do this for you with a code reader most will do this for free, this will tell you where the problem is. hope this helps
The light did not come on until I had the problem fixed. I am told it needs to be reset.
