The crank sensor is a mile away from the belts, can't see how they would have any effect.

There is a crankshaft sensor at the back of the engine on top of the bellhousing on the drivers side that always goes bad. It is a pain to change, but this has to be done before you go any further.

There are several reasons this can happen, the most common is that the crankshaft sensor has failed. This should give a code of 11. I recommend that you do a code check, in order to get an idea of what problems may be before doing anything else.
Code check: turn ignition key of and on twice, then the third time leave it in run position. check engine light will falsh. one flash pause, next flash(s), longer pause, then next set of falshes. If just crank sensor you will get firss code of 11, then next set will be 55 (end code)

Could you give me an idea on what could cause a 2002 jeep grand cherokee laredo tomget fire and fuel but not start i checked fuses fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel lines and spark plugs

So you have checked if your pump is engaging, have you checked fuel pressure or if injectors are opening? And your spark plugs look ok but have you checked for spark? Any check engine light or light on the dash?

94 jeep wont start after trying for long time a few days gose by and it suddenly starts replaced lot of parts still wont start only when it wants to.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Have you replaced the coil pack? The coil pack supplies current to the plugs. If the coil pack is faulty it tends not to give current to the plugs. One good reason why it won't run most of the time. I strongly suggest that you replace the coil pack and observe how it goes.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 6 cyl engine. While driving Saturday afternoon it suddenly started shaking and the check engine light started flashing. After a few minutes the light became steady,...

Even though the plugs are "new" it can get fouled out. Soon as you put in a new set, one could go bad on start up. The plug wire could have hit a hot surface and burned into the insulation causing a spark jump. You can check the wire by holding a screwdriver in the spark plug end and holding it 1/4' from a metal surface. Have someone to turn the engine over to see if you have a nice blue looking spark jumping from the screwdriver to the metal. Also, at night start the engine and look under the hood for any sparks jumping from the area. you could also have a misfiring injector but I would put that at the end of list.

I would check for jumping sparks first, then install a new plug in #2. Right now you would only be out of $2 for the plug.

Check spark to plugs. Possible crankshaft position sensor. Located at rear of engine between engine and trans.

93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Won't start

The crankshaft position sensor was seriously problematic in those old jeeps. It's located towards the top of the bell housing slightly to the driver's side I think.

Causes for no spark on 94 jeep cherokee please

Well it could be many things, But have you relpaced the dist. cap and rotor, within the last 15,000 miles or wires and plugs??? next step is the coil ? then it gets fun. like timing. but I think most jeeps with a Inline 6 have a bullet proof engine for the most part. As we all know there is plenty of semi's on the road. well the same set up is there. as an Inline Jeep. I would have to say 90% of semi's on the road are inline 6 cyl. engines. and may of them go to 1million miles.
so plugs, wires, cap, rotor and ignition coil. that is a good starting point.

Jeep stalls after 20 mins of runtime

Possible partially plugged filter, but also check ign coil...it could be "breaking down" when it gets hot!!!
Was distributor a guess, or was there a problem there? When it stalls, is there spark? Does it re-start and run normally after that?
