Clunking in rear end Jeep Liberty 3.7 automatic

Vehicle has 63,000 miles and never a lick of trouble until the clunking in the rear end started. clunking happens off and on but, at times is so loud people stop on the side of the road to look. I thought at first the sound was that of a flat tire because of the way it started but now I notice it going forward intermittantly and when it does it shakes the rear end.

Nearly impossible to tell you what it is without actually hearing and seeing it. I recommend that you check the rear universal joint, pinion bearing and wheel bearing assemblies for looseness. If it's that loud it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Good luck!!! If you need help doing the repair or have other questions just ask!!!

My Rear Brake Assembly was loose. The bolt securing it was broken so whenever the Jeep hit a pot hole or was going over cobblestone paths one could hear the loud rattling.

Increasingly loud noise coming from rear of '02 2WD 3.7L liberty

Spider gears are not difficult to replace...however, if they are worn, usually this contaminates the lube and can cause damage to carrier as well as pinion bearings...Those require precise settings with special tools and lots of experience to replace. Since you have had the noise for a long time, I can safely assume that debris has been building all that time. Spider gear set is not cheap...You may want to risk doing the job, but I would likely find another exact match, drum to drum replacement in a scrapyard. Generally I will only recommend a spider gear replacement if you have snapped a gear in half...an immediate failure
does not generate the kind of fine metal that wear does.

I have a2001 cherokee sport changed upper &lower ball joints, shocks sway bar end links and bushings. rear shocks, sway bar end links & bushings also, but i still get a clunking noise in the rear of...

Clunking noise in the rear of the vehicle is a broad statement. When is the vehicle doing it? Is it all the time or just over bumps? Is it happening only going around curves? Is it a constant bump that speeds up and slows down with the vehicle speed. You would be supprised how many clunking noises can come from the driveline not the suspension. It could be anything from a bushing to your rear differential getting ready to grenade.

If your engine light came on, the engine module could have stored a code.
You need to have a scanner to check what code it is and that will point you toward the solution.
Possible causes could be (crank sensor, tps sensor or oxygen sensor).
Don't go replacing parts until you scan the vehicle for codes first.
