2005 G6 GT Won't start. Turn key from off to accessory and interior light dim and flicker, dash lights are not self testing as usual. Turn key to start and CD changer continues to click like changing CD's. Starter clicks. Battery is fully charged. Had charger on it for hours and headlights are bright until ignition key is turned on.
Tried jump starting with a truck and it reacted the same way. Tried my Jump Starter and after a few attempts it started. Drove it home about a mile into my garage. Turned it off and tried restarting. Same problems. Tried charger on battery for about 4 hours (it indicated fully charged when I hooked it up but left it on anyway). After 4 hours it tried starting and same problems. Set charger to 100amp start mode and still same problems.Tried jump starting with a truck and it reacted the same way. Tried my Jump Starter and after a few attempts it started. If I had to take a guess, it appears like when turning on the ignition key from off to the first position (run mode not start) that something is shorting the electrical system and pulling the battery down. Not sure what in the car could pull down that many amps without blowing a fuse or showing other symptoms. If I had to take a guess, it appears like when turning on the ignition key from off to the first position (run mode not start) that something is shorting the electrical system and pulling the battery down. If antthing was shorted it should blow a fuse. I would try installing a new battery or take the battery out and take it somewhere that can load test it.

The clicking sound is coming from the starter. It could be a faulty solenoid, or you could be right about the battery. If the battery is too weak, the starter will not engage. A quick test is to turn on the dome light. If the dome light dims slightly when cranking and you hear the clicks it is probably the starter. If the light goes out or dims greatly, it is probably the battery. If the battery is weak, it is a good idea to have the charging system tested as well. If the battery is older than three years, it is probably just the battery.
It depends upon what actually happens when you turn the key. If the engine turns over, but doesn't start, it is NOT the starter. If all you hear is a clicking sound, or the starter motor engages but doesn't have the power to turn it over, then it could be wither the starter or the battery. A quick and easy check when this happens is to turn on the interior light. If, when you turn the key and get the click or no activity, the interior light dims way down or goes completely out, it is probably the battery. If you turn the key and get nothing at all, things are more difficult. The interior lamp test should be performed. If the light goes out immediately, try the battery. If the light doesn't flicker or dim at all, then the problem could be the starter, the starter relay, the Park/Neutral Position (PNO) switch, the ignition switch, or the IGN E (Fuse 22) or IGN A (Fuse 34) fuse in the fuse block under the hood.
Make sure the connections and the cables are good.No corrosion on cables. If the lights in the dash flicker this is usually a sign that the battery is not good or it is not making good contact.Have the charging system and battery load tested.Hope this helps.Good luck.
Usually they are under the dash or on the side of the dash by the drivers door. There should be a diagram that shows which fuse works the tail lights. Use the puller provided, pull the fuse out and check to make sure that the interior wire is broken. If it is replace the fuse. If it is not have a mechanic look at it for a short
