Question about 1988 Honda Accord 4 Door

1 Answer

88 Honda LXi...starts then dies, restarts then dies.

I have a 5 speed with 164, 000. Has been an excellent runner. The car wont take fuel to keep the engine running. The fuel filter and fuel pump have been replaced in hopes of clearing up the problem. Still to no avail. Thank you for your time and trouble. Much appreciated.

My '88 Accord LX does the same thing. Only now, when it dies, I have to wait several hrs before it will start again, only for it to die after running for 10-15 seconds.

Just check the fuel pump is connected right also the fuel filter other than that it could be a blockage in one of the fuel lines the filter should have an arrow printed on it point it out hope this helps regards Jim

I suspect that your fuel system is faulty. Check for a clogged fuel filter, or if your fuel pump don't run at all, replace the "fuel pump relay". Fuel pump may be faulty. Sometimes your fuel pump will run, but be too weak to hold pressure, which will let your car idle somewhat, but be too weak to run the engine at speed or under load.

Hyundai excel engine keeps stopping

I've heard of an excel with problems with the signal from the computer not keeping the fuel pump on, if I recall, that was on a '91 excel. To check yours, you would need to monitor the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge, when the car was running, and still hooked up when the car strops running. If the pressure drops when the car stalls, you know you have a problem in the fuel pump circuit. The owner of that '91 excel had replaced the computer once, and believed he needed another. Don't know if this is your problem, but a good place to start is with the fuel pressure test, especially right after the car stalls. If it turns out not to be fuel related, then probably something in your ignition.

93 4 Runner fuel problems

Don't worry, there is only about 100 things that can keep the EFI system from working properly. Try this 1st: My '91 4runner wont run properly, or at all, when the Air cleaner / intake assembly is not hooked up / installed, it needs the MAS air flow sensor to measure the incomming air or it will not run. Then, Are you getting positive pressure of fuel to to the engine from the tank yet or is the pump just running? Thread a pressure gauge to the fuel rail on the engine & check pressure with key on / engine off (should be between 35-45 psi) Check / replace the fuel filter & try disconnecting the fuel & return lines lines @ both the tank & Throttle body & blowing out with 25-50 psi air to ensure the line is clear. You may need to vacuume test the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. If you are still having problems, it can be the injector(s), the fuel pump relay or any of the sensors in the EFI system including the VSV sensor, which measures the fuel pressure & relays the info to the ECM (computer). To check & test all of the sensors it will be worth the $20-30 Haynes or Chilton Manual. start with the easy stuff though, then work up to the sensors & electronics

no it wont but a cloged fuel filter will increase the pressure from tank to filter and overload the amperage in fuel pump and posibly burnt fuse also check for bad engine mounts if engine moves while is under load it might contact some wires and burnt fuse
