My brake lights are not working and the car is stuck in park.... I know it is a fuse but none of them look damaged.... what fuse do I replace to fix the brake lights? 1996 Ford Taurus Station Wagon LX
Thank you for the information.... This same problem occurred about a month ago.... I removed every fuse-inspected them for damage... wire brushed them and put them back in.. the brake lights worked....do you know which fuse or fuses are for the brakes..so I don't have to remove them all again?

tried to shift from park to another gear, the shifter would not move.
There are a few possible reasons why your 2010 Hyundai Elantra may be stuck in park even with functioning brake lights and a replaced brake switch and interlock solenoid. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check the fuse: Ensure that the fuse for the brake lights and shift interlock system is not blown. If it is, replace it with a new fuse of the same rating.
2. Inspect the wiring: Examine the wiring that connects the brake lights, brake switch, and shift interlock solenoid. Look for any signs of damage or loose connections. Repair or replace any faulty wiring as necessary.
3. Test the brake light switch: Even though you have replaced the brake switch, it is still possible that the new switch is defective. Use a multimeter to check for continuity when the brake pedal is pressed. If there is no continuity, the brake
If none of the lights in back work, it sounds like something happened to the main wiring harness. Which is probably beyond your ability to repair at home.
If the parking lights and turn signals work in front you know the fuses are good, so they should also work in back.
The parking lights, turn signals, back up lights and brake lights are on 4 different circuits.
Start car . Push brake pedal have some one check if you have brake lights if you have no brake lights your brake lite switch on brake pedal or directly behind it is bad or your fuse is bloen. if you have brake lights your neutral safty switch or wireing is bad. if this was helpful please leave good feed back.
check if you have brake lights, if not your brake light fuse or brake switch are bad replace fuse or switch and it should work again if this was helpful please leave good feed back
The problem is with the brake lights, there is a solenoid which prevents you taking the vehicle out of park unless you have your foot on the brake, the solenoid is wired into the brake light circuit. Bridge the two wires to the switch and see if the brake lights come on, that eliminates the switch, as the horn has stopped working as well the chances are it is a fuse. To test a fuse, remove it from the box and use a multi meter set on resistance and check for continuity, if they are all ok, you are looking for a wiring fault! You could try using a live fused fly lead from the battery direct to the brake light switch to put the brake lights on, and see if the vehicle will come out of park. Then it's just a matter of finding the wiring break? Try all connectors. Good Luck
It is not your brake lights that are keeping you from getting out of park. There is a pressure switch located under the brake pedal that when the brake is depressed will open the circuit to unlock the gear shifter. Some are compressed as well depending on the manufacturer.
Hi if none of your brake lights are working then this points towards the brake light switch failing, its not expensive to buy and will only take 30min ti fit by someone who knows what their doing.
the brake light switch is located at the back of the brake pedal and its right at the very top of the pedal its a bit hard to get to but if you have a close look at the brake pedal you should just about see it its right at the very top and at the back of the pedal you should then see the switch with a couple of wires going to it.
let me know if you need further assistance ok

Had the same problem with my 03 Disco. Went through the usual, checking the fuses, etc. I went ahead and replaced my break light switch on the brake pedal. $15.00 fix, or I thought so; still had the problem! Took it in for repairs and found out it was fuses after all...
To get the parking lock to disengage you need to pull of the housing, which is tough and then press in the locking pin at the base of the shift lever to shift out of park. you can do it with the engine running and it will drive just fine until you put it into park again. Check your brake lights if there is a problem. Could be a sign of the brake switch failure. In my case the lights were out, but a cheap trailer rental did the damage. The short in the trailer blew some fuses and it was a problem that cost me $60.00 at the repair shop....
HAVE SOMEONE GO BEHIND THE CAR AND CHECK AND MAKE SURE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON, IF THEY DON'T WORK THEN THERE IS NO POWER TO THE BRAKE PARK INTER-LOCK SOLENOID AND YOU CAN NOT DIS-ENGAGE PARK. IF THEY DON'T WORK CHECK THE FUSE, IF IT IS OK REPLACE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH.
