3800 97 grand prix gt, first it started to drop rpm gauge/engine shut off mid stream after 5 miles of driving, could turn key off and on and would resume. then later it got more persistent, then after a few months of that I was having hard time restarting,I changed TP sensor, it started drove around driveway, died ,haven't been able to get started since. I just read a answer on here and tried it prior to writing this, it was the key thing were you turn key forward, then to acc. leave for ten min, turn it to off then pull key 1/4 out then back in then start. it started ran a few sec rough then died. any one help I wonder?
this sounds similar to a problem i had.
as the rpm went over 2000 the engine would stop for a split second and then kick back in.
after a few days looking my garage finally found the problem was a faulty air mass meter.
this cost me £200 in total to be repaired.

I've had the same thing happen with my '03 Sable. at around the same milage. THe one thing is that it only happened when it was cold and damp like early sping in MIchigan. I changed the plugs and wires and seems to be ok now. I'm at 70K and the transmission has gone out! Getting harder to beat the FORD drum when they keep pumping POS vehicles out like this!

SOURCE: 2000 Grand Cherokee V8: Cold start Oil Pressure is
Replace the oil pressure sending unit its giveing a false reading . The problem is when the engine is cold the oil pressure is low and it takes a little time to build up whem cranking the engine and that sends a signal to the computer PCM /VCM what ever but your 40 to 60 lbs oil pressure is graet its ideal .The unit switches when the oil pressure is high enough to trip the switch inside the sending unit and that is sent to the vehicle control module

this engine fuel pump prassurae low. it fuel pump celan. Your problem sovel
First off, is a check engine lite on,if so do you know the codes? It does have a cam sensor, the cam sensor malfunction gives a code reading,in general fuel probs do not give a code this is done bymanually checking fuel press ect....the module does give specific codes as well...I have seen a cam sensor give the prob. you list, BUT TEST BEFORE YOU BUY,you can get your own codes from the a.l.d.l connector, under dash...take a coated jumper wire and push one end into the g .circuit ,the other into the b terminal and watch the lite flashig in the dash,,ie, 2 flashes...pause then 4 flashes is an example....wilf
