I'm fairly sure it is inside the side cover on the driver side of the transmission. Some of the solenoids are also there but I think they are under the side cover too.
BTW - I show a 2006 LT model having the 2.2 engine and the SS model having the 2.4 engine.

2007 Chevy Cobalt LT Door's unlocked by themselves.

Electronic's - BCM - body control module , sensor or switch input to the BCM is bad . Would need testing to find the culprit , checking data parameters to the BCM - Checking DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes etc.....The vehicle in the video may not have the same problem as yours but shows the electronics & electrical systems involved .

2006 chevy cobalt LT. the key is stuck

Have you tried shifting the gears completely through and then putting the car in park. It sounds like the car isn't able to be put completely in park to release the key. Try putting the car in N and removing the key. Even thought the car may not completely be in park to release the key, The gear most likely is in park but not enough to make the switch/sensor to release.
