also a 97' ram 1500 ext.cab 4x4. seems to slip out of a gear into neutral, and will also decide to down shift and shift up again. thats with o.d. off ,and when it's going into the last gear it seems to stay in that fade to that gear and then the rpms stay high.

Ask around for a reputable tranny shop in your area and let them service tranny with either a TransGo or B&M Shift kit. Get to know the owner and give him your business and tell him you'll let all your friends know how good a job they did. If it is a family owned and not a National chain shop they will treat you right if they know you'll send business their way. They will work to please and with the shift kit you will not have any more problems. I've done this in over 10 of my 4x4's in the past and am always very pleased and never have any problems. Just remember to let them service (change fluid in tranny & transfer case) at scheuled times and you can drive around the world almost 100% worry free. I've used both TransGo & B&M and both have been great for me. Spend $250-350 (parts & labor) now and never worry or spend $3,000.00+++ if you let it go.

04 ram will not shift past 35 mph

it may not be a transmission problem. have you checked for fault codes to make sure it is not in limp mode? limp mode keeps vehicle from accelerating properly because the ECM has put the system at a limited setting to keep the engine running but not to its full potential.

I have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9L 360 auto trans. with 4 wheel drive. When it goes to shift from first to second it winds up to about 3,000 rpm before it shifts or won't unless i put it in neutral...

Sounds as though the valve body in the trans is stuck.I would use a additive called LUBE GUARD .You can find this at NAPA auto parts. If it doesn`t work, the trans will need to be repaired by a trans man.The additive will un~ stick the valve body, and treat the metal in he trans. It would be a good idea to change the trans fluid, and filter. And add the additive then.I hope this helps,it will work in about 5 miles or so if the additive is going to fix it.If this is at all helpful, please let us know.thank you.

1997 Chevy P-32 step van (panel van, delivery van) with 4L80-E transmission: Truck drives and shifts properly in gears one through three, but slips as soon as it shifts into fourth. It will not pull at all...

the fourth clutch is burnt probably due to a bad 4th clutch piston seal... if you can get a good trans that cheap then you should just put one in it unless you are familiar with internal trans repairs...

Shifting into 4wheel drive

btwn 2H and 4H can be done while driving up to 55 mph.
btwn 4L and 4H must stop put into Neutral in automatic trans. - do not stop at N on 4WD shifter. One solid motion.

97 dodge ram 4x4 1500 transmission just quit

Does it have a on off switch for the Over Drive?
on some models there is a overdrive senor or vaccum pot to switch it into O D They attend to freeze up and not allow it to work properly.
If you have access to a heated shop leave it inside for a day and see if that works

1994 F350 transmission intermittent problem

I had the same problem in my 96 f-350. The transmission has slipped recording a slip code in the transmission. You can pull the codes and get it. I shifts into a safe mode that increases the pressure inside your transmission as part od a fail safe. Plain and simple, you have to have the tranny rebuilt.
