Saab 95 3.0 tid turbo with sticking waste gate

My 04 tid with 54 k on the clock developed a fault on the turbo which would shut down under acceleration. Engine check light would come on and vehicle could be driven on without turbo working. Turbo would work again when re started, but fail again under load. Initial tech 2 diagnosed over boost switch which was replaced, but fault reoccurred. It was then discovered that waste gate was badly carbonned up which sometimes caused it to stick shut. Initial clean with turbo in situ cured it for a week, but problem reoccurred. Second attempt with with turbo removed was carried out today, but if unsucessful turbo unit may have to be stripped rebuilt by specialist. Turbo is otherwise OK, is this a common problem? Seems to be an expensive problem on a car with reasonably low mileage

My saab 95 1.9 tid revs fine in neutral when put in drive and pull of there's no power won't go above 3000 ram any ideas

HI Derek.

There are a few possibilities that come to mind.
3K RPM is generally about the break-even point for when Turbo boost would kick in. There is a dump valve on the turbo system that opens up and vents the extra turbo pressure under high-rpm situations where the boost isn't needed - say high but steady speed on a freeway. If the dump valve system is malfunctioning, then that anticipated turbo run-up in power won't happen.

Revving fine when in neutral may not tell you much, other than that the engine can rev. The gating system will (or should) run differently under load - whether climbing a hill or accelerating, this is where you want the turbo boost to give you the extra power. THat's where the exhaust gate should stay shut, or mostly shut, to allow the turbo to force more air into the pistons.

You might want to check whether the APC (Automatic Performance Control) for the turbo has a separate fuse. (The name might be different on your model, I'm remembering from my 80s/90s era Saabs). If the fuse is blown, that could also lead to lame performance, especially as I'd imagine that the system would be built to fail or go to full open if the APC fails or loses power - that'd keep people from having run-away power that they can't manage.

Hoping this helps

Audi A6 3.0 tdi Quattro 2005, glow plug light comes on, limp mode

16619 -Engine boost condition - Limit not reached. Check intake hoses/ connections for leaks. Check Turbo charger waste gate regulating valve/ waste gate working correctly. Must move freely when accelerating, won't achieve full boost if waste gate sticking open. Check Turbo impeller turning freely, oil feed pipe for turbo can get blocked causing impeller to seize. Engine compact, not easy to access these components.

Engine has no power under 3000 rpm

have a look at the EGR valve if its stuck open you loos all the turbo boost till the EGR valve closes
it could also be the turbo gate valve (wast gate) sticking open so the turbo cant cut in till its screeming then the gate shuts and the old girl picks up her skirts and go's,,, you may get away with just blanking off the EGR valves to try them out but the turbo is a different mater,,,

I need of a turbo waste gate on a 7.3 liter

Yes it will hurt the performance if yo do anything wire the waste gate shut. however the waste gate is on the inside of the turbo unless you have a special turbo that is not stock.
