04' Ford FreeStar - The Radio Stay On When Van Is Off

04' ford freestar with a 4.9l v6. When I turn the van off the radio will stay on. I Have also noticed the other night when I was walking by the van. The button's on the door were also staying lit. I can turn the radio off by pushing the power button, however the radio is still actually on, it has begun to kill my bat. I work with a guy that used to work for Ford and he says he doesn't understand it. So Please help so my wife can let me be....lol Thank you C.A.Ebersole

Same problem here, 2004 Freestar... Radio stays i when you remove key and get out. I believe this may be the culprit of my battery dying. What is the red light on the dash that flashes for? We just bought his used.

It is the accessory relay (NOT the accessory delay relay). On the 2004 Ford Escape, it is to the right of the fuses in the fuse box by the driver's side seat. I bought Standard V13081 RY612. It cost me $15.61 with tax. It's been a week and all is well so far.

I have the same problem - the radio and the lights for the power door locks stay on even when you take the key out and open then drivers door which is supposed to turn them off automatically. I have noticed that when you turn the key back to the accessory position and then off everything shuts down.

Nothing wrong with it. When you remove the key, it stays on for about 20 minutes. It gives you time to finish listening to your radio and roll up the window. Once the driver door is open, everything shuts off or if 20 minutes has passed.

I totally disagree with the above, this is obviously a ford defect. I also have a 2004 freestar and have experienced the same problems. I had my radio disconnect and am now waiting to see if it drains my battery.....it's been a week and my van has started first time, every time

When I turn off myfor freestar van and open the door the radio does not shut off, How do I fix it?

Get some WD40 and spray it in the latch where the door locks. Then open and close the door until the radio goes off. (worked for me on my 2003 Explorer) The switch that makes the int. lights come on is the same to make the radio go off when the door is open. And after a while it tends to stick.

2004 freestar can't turn the radio up or down it

I would question your children " if you have any" if they have put anything in the cd slot, I work at a dealership and we find a lot of problems with the van radios are very nice children like to play and put small change into the cd slot, which shorts out the internal components of the radio, if you remove the radio, dash piece just pops off then 4 screws hold radio in, and shake it you should not hear anything rattling around in it.
