95 Mercury Mystique seems to be misfiring around 2000 and 3000 rpm. When I push down on the gas, it jumps or pops when it revs up to 3000 rpm. And it also seems the gears do not catch once I pass 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm. It just revs up. I am assuming the gears are not catching. Is it the transmission?

Could be the transmission.Make sure it is full of fluid. Hold your foot on the brake and give it some gas with the other foot. If you feel a miss, then it is a miss fire.

Check your transmission fluid. You could be alittle low. Check it hot in Park while running.

The transmission needs to have the filter and fluid replaced.

SOURCE: Are you stumped too?? Here is a log of a problem

check for dirty fuel filter at engine,,,also you can try one more additive...SEAFOAM...nine bucks a can...add to your gas tank, the trhottle body...follow direstion on the can....don't be alarmed that the engine might smoke...it is temporary and usually fixes fuel problems caused by dirt of carcon build ups....houpe you can use this info

SOURCE: i have a 95 mercury mystique and it starts but but

THE ENGINES THROTTLE BODY HAS A TPS WICH IS CALLED A THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR

It has a built in reostat inside of it which can get a flat spot anywhere in its circuit explaining why your car hesitates or sounds like it is ready to stall out
'
I would replace it and have the voltage set at 1.5 volts when set at the idle position
Then it should run fine again

I have a 2000 Mercury Mystique. It starts fine and sounds fine but when I push the gas pedal, it will hesitate for a second, then lunges forward & squeals tire. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Backfiring in internal combustion engines occurs outside of the combustion chamber, and is typically the result of an improper air to fuel ratio. An overly lean air-fuel mixture (i.e. an overabundance of air) can lead to a failure to ignite in the combustion chamber, also called a "misfire".

you must reset the ignition timing to manufacter specification. Otherwise you must RUN the scanner/computer for easy diagnostic and fix it. You can faulty: ignition coil+sensor+PCM+BCM+wires spark+sparkplugs, etc see the diagram attached.

My mercury mystique ran out of gas I put gas in it but wont start

Turn the key on and listen for the fuel pump to prime, you ran out of gas, if it was weak to begin with that may have finished it.

Check for vacuum leaks. You can spray starting fluid around all parts of the intake.Observe idle as you do.If there is a leak the engine rpm will race higher. Also listen for hissing noise. Is the check engine light on?..If so what codes are stored..Good Luck!!!
