03 olds alero wont start but lights on

Check to make sure the Security light in dash on right hand corner is not on. If it is on , your passlock is enabled. to dissable it turn your key on but not start it and wait for apx 10-15 minutes. this should re-set it.

The most common cause for this is the Passlock Ignition Cylinder. This is what sends the theft information to the body control module to allow it to start. Have also had bad body control modules do this as well.

With the new lock cylinder in it, turn the key on. The security light should blink. Leave the key on for 10 minutes, the security light will quit blinking and go out after 10 min. This will reprogram your security system and the car should start. Also leave a battery charger on it while the key is on, If the battery goes dead during the 10 minute reprogram sequence, you will have to start over again.

i own a 03 alero ... aleros have history of igniton switches going bad... replace it or take it to dealer then ull be charged arm and leg...
