2000 Dodge Ram 1500- Usually runs fine with a minimal of bog down on acceleration. Occasionally, when I try to start after truck has been sitting for a few hours, it gives rhythmic whining like it can't get air or fuel. It sounds like it's on the verge of starting, but it never does. It has done this twice in the past. After letting it sit for a while after trying, it has started those two occasions. Please help with a diagnosis.

This veh is a fuel injected veh,you should not have to pump it to start that is done and controled by the computer, you sound like you have a fuel issue, might be bad pump bleeding off after you shut down ,could be a bad fuel regulator.

I have a 2005 mitsubishi outlander. It wont start after I ran out of gas. I bought a new battery but the car still wont start

It's still out of gas until the lines are purged of air. The fuel pump has to run awhile to build up pressure. Keep cranking. If you can take the small gauge wire off the starter easily, all you have to do is turn the key to the start position and hold it there for a while. Listen for the fuel pump. When it slows down or stops then reconnect the wire and it should start.

I have a 2001 Mazda MPV the problem is this it will start fine fir awhile and then I will go out and wont start. Yet if I try it again later it will start up no problem it has got a couple of mechanics...

If it is turning over when it does not start, may be a fuel pump going bad. Gets hot and stalls out and won\'t start till it cools
down. Must be replaced. Check fuel filter as well. Could also be something as simple as a bad battery, starter or alternator connection... Corrosion is a bummer!

I can start the engine, it runs for awhile, but wont keep running. i keep pumping the gas to keep it going. when going down the road, she will quit on me. when i press down on the gas, she sort of bogs...

That sounds like a fuel flow problem. I would start off changing the fuel filter and doing a pressure check on the fuel pump!

I would also suggest you test the fuel. If it has water in it, that could also cause similar symptoms. A poor mans check on fuel is to put some in a styrofoam cup and if it doesn't disolve the bottom of the cup in under 20 seconds, your fuel is contaminated.

My 2005 nissan xterra won't start i bought a new battery still wouldn't start. but all lights and gaurges started to work. As were they didnt before the new battery

When you try to start does the motor spin but wont start or is there no noise at all, if its no noise at all then i would start by checking the starter and if it spins but wont start then try holding gas pedal down and cranking the motor with a dead battery it may have lost memory and will need to run awhile to relearn idle at start up and other readings you may need to hold gas pedal to keep running for a few minutes, start with this first.

2000 dodge 1500 van wont start then starts hard or not at all

Sounds like the IAC sensor is bad..Try this when it doesnt start instead of pumping it which wont do anything because its computer controlled hold the gas pedal to the floor. If it start its the idle air control located on the throttle plate..So rememeber the day it doesn't start hold gas pedal to floor and start it.If nothing we have different problems..Let me know and I will guide you through next steps....

My 99 suburban wont start without starting fluid

I had same problem. Engine will start if you crank it for awhile. This is because the fuel pump has a . check valve that is supposed to keep fuel from running back into tank and hold fuel at pressure so it will start immediately. If valve leaks it takes awhile for fuel to be pumped back up to injectors. Replacing fuel pump fixed my problem.
