Instrument lights won't turn off

Undr steerin or engine area. Just unhook negativbatt post ovrnite. The wiring is old n worn causin to stay on. Cud b work to fixit. Try togit the bulbout

What lights are not working ? The instrument cluster illumination is inoperative or all the lights ,radio , heater control head, all the switches that would be back lighted.

The climate control panel illumination is inoperative , The passenger door lock control switch illumination is inoperative. Could need new dimmer switch , new instrument cluster. When installing a new instrument cluster, it is necessary to upload the module configuration to the scan tool. Following installation of the new instrument cluster, download the module configuration from the scan tool into the new instrument cluster. Refer to Section 418-01 .

Sounds like the headlight switch is either turned to the interior light position, or that part of the switch is defective. It is possible for just part of the switch to be bad, and the rest to function properly. Good luck....gotta be a pain to unhook that battery every night.

when you attempt to roll the windows down, do the interior lights flicker? or dim? or, even better wait until it is dark out side, and then go and turn on the car, and turn on the instrument cluster lights, and radio illumination lights (basically, just turn on your headlights). nowtry again. does the instrument cluster lights or radio backlights dim? if so then you know that pwoer is gettingto the right side of the windows. then the problem probably is that you need new motors for the windows [water might have screwed them up]. Now, if the lights did NOT dim, that means that no power is going there, and activating the motor. that means you might have a blown fuse...or bad depends on how old the car is. email me the specs, and i will look into it for you-Andy from Currituck, NC

to test the gauges, in the arm rest console (middle of car between driver and passenger) there is a fuse box. if you have the lid with the info remove the "Instrument Panel" fuse. open switch to On where normally the dash lights up. insert fuse back in. if no change could be the gauge thats bad or could be in the fuel tank the floater that sends the info to the dash what the fuel level is at.

With the car in key position 2, the position right before you turn it to start, hit the VCM button on the right trip meter, you will get a code.

Code 44 means that the oxygen sensor is signaling the computer that the fuel mixture is bad - too rich or too lean.

there are 2 large terminal plugs with the wiring for all the instruments that are plugged into the back of that panel. make sure they are snug and in place. You reach in and under but it may easier to "simply" remove the cluster. 4 screws hold it in place accessible form underneath and with a long phillips screwdriver and lighting.
