could you please explain what an "admission system" is, i've personally never heard of that expression. if you mean air intake then i have already done that with brake cleaner spray.

    hi there,

I have exactly the same problem with my 2003 polo, its driving me mad.Ive taken it to various local garages and no one has been able to sort the problem.

  • philies36 May 19, 2009

I also have similar problem, car is running sluggish and when idle engine light began to flash and the car began to shudder. I have a 2005 1.2 12v 64bhp polo, and the engine management light has now came on and i got a diagnostic test done indicating 2nd cylinder not firing properly. I don't the code but the guys at the garage tried new plugs and i am now going to try a fuel injector to see if this solves the problem.

I've had the same problem with my 2003 polo. The garage I took it to also thought it was the 2nde cylinder and replaced it (apparently needed to be) but the problem continued. Eventually, it was diagnosed as needing a new Map Sensor. Don't know how much it's going to cost as they've asked me to drive it for the next few days. Car has been in garage for 3 weeks before being diagnosed however, after getting it back today it seems to be running find although the steering is now stiff!!! I give up

I am having the same issue with my 2001 Galant Mitsub. I changed the plugs, MAP sensor and checked the Throttle senor. I disconnected the MAF from sensor and it runs when reconnected it cuts off.

Think Safty first. Have you had the car's codes checked first? Check the air intake tube for leaks and all vacuum hoses. For the intake you might hear a hissing noise. For the vacuum hoses check for dry rot, cracks. With a little soapy water you can spray them if the idle gets better or worse replace that vacuum hose.

IF YOU SEE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING LOOK FOR TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE REGULATOR VALVE FAULT OR MAP SENSOR FAULT.THAT COULD BE YOUR PROBLEM.IF NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING YOU COULD HAVE A RESTRICTED EXHAUST SYSTEM BAD TURBOCHARGER, RESTRICTED FUEL FILTER.ALL THOSE THINGS WILL CAUSE POWER LOST.

Plug the vacuum line you unplugged and the idle should come back. Change your air filter and the map sensor. check for correct coolant level and replace the coolant temp. sensor. This sensor affects cold starting and idle through the ECU (open loop mode, rich fuel mapping and 1200 rpm idle) It should go to closed loop mode in the ECU once engine warm up is achieved ( lean fuel mapping and normal 900 rpm idle). Do not unplug anything else till you perform an OBDII scan of the stored fault history
