Shop broke more then they fixed and keep lying to me.

I have a 98 Pontiac Sunfire. 2.2ltr. 187,000 miles. Okay it all started with my engine overheating. I took it to shop X, they gave me a $1,400 est. to machine the gasket cap back on, change the upper radiator hose, and replace the water pump which they tell me was leaking. Without calling and okaying, they added on another $300 worth of stuff including more hoses, and changing my oil (which I do myself). They then sealed it all up and sent my on my way with a $1,700 tab. A few days later it started over-heating again. I took it back, and they told me I needed to switch out the radiator. Which would cost almost $500, All because when they were changing the bottom radiator hose they found stop leak pellets in the radiator, I had no idea because the unit was replaced a few years ago before it was my car. Now these pellets had lodged themselves throughout the system and are clogging it up. I asked them why they cant just flush it. He says at this point I just need to replace it. Now Im thinking. why didn't they just flush it before when they had all the hoses off and had initially detected the problem. I tell them ill take it back later.  I figure I can change it myself for far cheaper. Plus it doesn't over-heat on the interstate, only when I get stuck in traffic for a while. That night I take it down the street and my belt comes off. Nearly causing a wreck. I get it off the rode, look inside and the wheel on the water pump had almost completely come off. Figuring the shop must have left the 3 bolts untightened. I call them the next day and I get it towed back, they fix it for free (good but still costs me a day at the shop). During which time I watch the mechanic get angry at dropping something and he hits the engine with his wrench or whatever is in his hand at the time. I get it back and he reminds me once more I need a new radiator(from them of course). I leave and dont drive it much for a few days worried I'll get another clog. A few days pass and Im on the interstate and have a major power failure while driving, the engine is having trouble keeping its rpms whenever I slow down. I make it to another machanic and he showed me the plug on the alternator has been knocked loose. He suggested I go back to shop X and tell them. Because they probably bumped it while changing the hose that runs underneath it (or when hitting it with his wrench). I took it back to the shop and told them that they must have bumped it and that I needed it fixed. But I didn't mention that a mechanic had actually told me this information. Now shop X thinking im a dumb kid, and not wanting to pay for any more of their mistakes, sends me on home saying nothings wrong with the alternator and that the engine light that had come on had some sort of emissions code attached. Before I made it home all the sensor lights started flickering off and on. And the head lights dimmed drastically(which is the third time they've put me in harms way). Now when I start it up it idles at 3000 rpms. Here's my question, should I bring it back, or to another shop?  Also do I have grounds to sue them and get back all the money Ive wasted including a rental car for the first few days it was in there. Plus time away from work, which was my last week before my job shut down and I missed several days dealing with this bull. I know i'll never refer anyone there for work done or take my own vehicle there. But they should fix what they broke or pay for it at least. I just dont know how far they are actually in the wrong. please give me advice concerning this shops lack of regard for my property and life. Also if the initial work they did sounds legit to begin with. Thanks so much.

Fix rod bearing

If it is the big end bearings the you will be looking at an engine rebuild or an engine from the wreckers. Either way it will be expensive.

Have a 97 2.4L Pontiac Sunfire with under 100,000 miles, has bad crankshaft bearings, what's the easiest way to fix it,or the cheapest.

the cheap *** way to fix that would be replacing the bearings and only them and related gaskets but most of the time your crank will need machine shop work.

98 sunfire wont start, battery good, replaced starter solnoid, starter, ignition.. please help

if you had the starter recall done, there is a relay mounted near the center of the radiator that controls start power. Pontiac dealer sells the part.

My car won't start and the battery is fine. i have a 98 pontiac sunfire 2.4L, please help

Not enough info to work with. Several problems can cause a vehicle not to start. If your battery is fine that is good, but does the car crank? (engine turning over attempting to start.) I will not speculate on what may be wrong without knowing more details...

Trying to read error codes 98 pont/sunfire 2.2l

You can't read the codes this way on 95 and newer cars and light trucks (OBD 2 system), you will have to either go to a Kragen auto where they will do it for free or buy a cheap code reader for about $30-40.
