The release for the shifter is tied to the brake lites, check to see if the brake lights work, if they don't then test the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal, if it lights a test lite when you press the brake it is ok, in that case you need to check the little solenoid that pulls the cable to unlock the shifter, it is bolted to the top of the steering column, in order to get at it you will have to unbolt the column and drop it dow.

Take it back to the JACKASSES that fixed it, and tell THEM to FIX it!

Is the CHMSL ( Center High Mount Stop Lamp ) working ?
Is it a regular bulb, or did it get changed to a LED ?
If it is a functioning factory type bulb, the shift interlock solenoid is the cause.
Until you can fix the CHMSL or the shift interlock, you can turn the key to the run position ( do not start ), press and hold the brake pedal, shift into neutral, and then start the truck.
Your MY the shift interlock circuit and the brake lamp circuit are the same.
Usually the shift interlock stops working when the brake lamp fuse is blown, or if the bulbs are out ( truck does not see a load on the circuit ).
If LED tail lamps were installed without load resistors, the shift interlock circuit will not work ( looks like a burnt out brake lamp bulb )

as a safety precaution today's vehicles are not supposed to shift out of park until brake pedal is depressed. usually it is one of two things that might cause your dilema, 1- you have a bad brake light switch and truck does not release shifter since it does not recognize you brake pedal as being pushed or 2- a bad shift interlock switch. make sure your brake lights work if they are orerational than most likely you have a bad shift interlock switch, not an uncommon problem. if this was helpful please leave positive rating.

check the stop light switch with a multi meter for functioning and if ok then renew the locking solonoid on the gearchange .
