I recently bought this truck and problem didnt appear on test drive. I did start to notice that when i place the truck in drive and barely give it gas, it seems to jump from first to second gear like it cant decide which to shift into, when i give it a good firm press on the pedal it seems to work fine. This only happens from first to second gear. I changed fluid and filter, no help. Any suggestions

Take a look at the down shift cable and make sure its not broken especially were it connects to the throttle linkage. And maybe try cleaning the electrical plug that plugs into the trans. Its about a 7 to 9 wire plug. They tend to collect water and short the wiring out.

The ole sawdust in the gear box trick eh? Just kidding. I had an almost exact problem in a Honda I owned once. I took it to the tranny shop to find out the 'spider gear' was missing teeth/torn up. The most likely cause of this problem is Neutral Dropping. A Neutral Drop is when the vehicle is in neutral whilst revving, and then dropped into gear. It is one of the worst things you could do to an automatic transmission. It is likely the previous owner had too much fun with it.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the bill for me ended up being around $3k. You have a fairly common truck. Check out the local junk yard to salvage a tranny. Or, an excellent resource is www.car-part.com

Thx for the input, but wouldnt that cause it to do it all the time, there are times when i will take off and works just perfect, then other times when it will be undecided on which gear first or second when im barley touching the pedal. I was leaning towards the throttle body adjustment, or even replacing the govenor speed sensor and solonoid? I appreciate your quick response. any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again.
