At first, I was getting an EGR error, So I had replaced the EGR about 3 months ago. Today, I recieved the code P1404 while driving and my Rodeo died. It will not start back. It turns over, But won't start. It does have a small exhaust leak if this may have anything to do with the code. The code stands for Control Auxiliary Emissions Controls. I checked the freeze data and it says Fuel System 1 closed, Fuel System 2 closed, But not sure if this has anything to do with my code. Can someone please help?

these O2 sensors are cat convertor check sensors. id be checking cat convertors and hopefully you should try replacing if not all ready is the front bank 2, O2 sensor
if you have scanner can you see fuel trims in data display to confirm high fuel trim only on bank 2 either +-5 or more indicates problem and if bank 2 sensor 2 has fixed high 700mv reading cat no good(warm idling)

Check the vacuum lines going to egr. An intake cleaning may also help.

There are 3 major issues with the V6 Rodeo. The intake manifold gaskets leak. The drive by wire sensor on the gas pedal goes bad and makes it stall or run at just idle (light will come on). And your problem is the wiring harness to the motor. Get under while it is running (best to do on lift) grab the harness and shake it and pull it. Engine will probably die. Sometimes taking plug apart and using electrical contact cleaner on it will work, sometimes a stick of dynamite will cure all the issues with these. My son was almost killed three times in his 2001.

Hi Jack,
I am not an expert and I don't have the codes in front of me with the meaning but I can offer some advice and hopefully it will solve your problem. First keep the print out of the codes and take it/them with you. Have someone check the oxygen sensor. It's possible that all of the codes you are getting lead up to the computer (electrical issue). I sure hope this helps. Good luck and let me know how things turn out.
SOURCE: Engine will not idle, stalls at stop lights etc - EGR code
To me if the engine will not idel and stall once you have stopped, that points to an IAC (Idle Air Control sensor) which is located on your throttle body. The part is very easy to get to and changes out pretty quickly. Hope this helps. Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa!

Just to update, I removed the fairly new EGR valve, Cleaned it along with the 2 ports. I had someone crank the engine without the EGR on. There was very little suction on one port and no blow on the other port. The exhaust pipe on the EGR side has white residue where it comes out of the manifold. The other exhaust pipe still looks good.
Another update. Found out that the timing belt had broke which caused the Rodeo to die. When the timing belt broke, It bent the valves too. Absolutely no compression what so ever. The engine is an interference engine. Time to buy a new vehichle.
