If the van was built with the PASS key security system, you can't start it without a chip for the system. The system reads the chip in your key. The sensor for the chip is in the lock cylinder that was damaged.
If the key did not have a chip, you should be able to disconnect the switch from the lock cylinder and move the slide with a screwdriver. The switch is on the steering column near the floor.

SOURCE: 99 gmc safari van, wont start,no fuel pressure to the filter

Do you hear pump cycle (hum) when you turn key to on position?
Take air intake hose of front of throttle body & spray WD-40 inside throttle body with plate open for a couple of seconds, then see if it will start & run for a second or 2. If it fires up for a short time, it is fuel related problem. Perhaps autoparts store lends or rents fuel pressure gauges, which will confirm if pump is working or not.

SOURCE: how to take off the cooling fan from 1997 gmc safari

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
  2. Place a catch pan under the radiator, open the drain **** and drain the cooling system.
  3. Loosen the clamp, then remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4. Remove the upper fan shroud retaining bolts, then remove the upper shroud from the vehicle.
  5. Remove the fan and clutch assembly retainers using J-41240, or an equivalent fan clutch wrench.
  6. If necessary, remove the 4 bolts holding the fan blade to the clutch, then separate the fan from the clutch assembly.

Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the components to the following specifications:
you will need a special tool to remove #3 fan clutch.

How can one check to make sure your problem is the fuel pump. i disconnected the line at the fuel filter and had no fuel flowing out when trying to start vehicle is 2001 GMC Safara Van

Open gas cap and turn key forward and listen for the fuel pump hissing noise. If its not there the fuel pump is out. (OPTION) Take heavy object like a club or tire Iron and bang plastic fuel tank in the middle. Several blows will be required. The idea is to shock your fuel pump into working. If it works then get it to a repair shop because It most likely will die again.

I have an 1998 gmc safari van, it quit while driving down the road. I had a friend tow it home. we tried starting fluid in the intake. It will turn over fine, but wont start. What could be wrong?

It is the Ignition. If you put starting fluid in it, and it did not start, then you probably have no spark.

Check that you have spark to the spark plugs. If not, then check the vehicles' Ignition System, and repair as neccessary.

Ok, 2003 GMC Safari AWD 245,000 km. Drove 100km

sounds like an ignition switch glitch or ignition harness problem can be either depending on the amount of wear and tear with turning on and off of the ignition tumbler or possible chafing or inconsistent short in harness to ignition switch check the ground line up through harness first and check the wiring harness condition

I have a gmc safari van that has the key stuck in the ignition it is running and will not turn offf. How do we stop the vehicle from running?

Probably the easiest and safest way is to go to the fuse box and pull the "ECM" fuse. If the fuse box does not have labels for which fuse is which, just start pulling and replacing fuses until the engine quits.
