For the 2007 Ford Focus side door mirror, question on the large bolt. What size is it? I dropped mine in the door and have to get a new one. The Ford parts dept cannot determine what it is. It has to be some type of a lag bolt as it has to cut the threads into the plastic on a new mirror assy. I need the size so I can get one. I tried a 1/4", too small. 5/16", too big....IT is a metric size I am pretty sure. Thanks, Phil

Disconnect your negative battery cable, if your Ford Focus has power side mirrors. If it has manual side mirrors, disconnecting the battery is unnecessary.
2
Pry off the wing mirror's inside sail panel (shaped like a triangle). Insert a trim panel tool between the door skin and the plastic panel to pry it off.
3
Carefully pull the sail panel away, minding the wiring if the mirror is power-operated. Unplug the electrical harness and set the panel aside.
4
Open the door and hold the outside part of the wing mirror steady. Remove the mounting bolt with a socket wrench, and then remove the mirror screw with a Phillips screwdriver (the mirror bolt and screw is visible with the panel removed).
5
Pull the wing mirror assembly from its mount (from the outside). Insert the replacement mirror assembly in place; tighten the bolt and the screw.
6
Attach the wiring connection to the replacement mirror. Position the sail panel in place and push it against the door to snap it back on.
You have to remove the sail cover that's on the opposite side of the mirror. It is held on by just some plastic lips on the edges. Pry off carefully. There is one speed nut at the very front of the mirror and one large nut in the center. That's it. Don't drop the big nut into the door panel.
On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to
get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel
and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and
disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door
You have to first remove the door panel, on mine there are 3 screws on the bottom and several clips all around it. After removing the panel you should see 2 or 3 bolt heads right behind the mirror, you need to use an extension and socket to remove them. remove the bolts and pull the mirror away from the door, unhook the wires, or cable and reverse to reinstall the new one, it took me about an hour to replace mine.
pull off the black triangle panel from the inside of the door opposite of the mirror. there is a gold 10mm bolt and a 1 black torx 20 bolt. unplug the connector and fish through the new one.
Usually its easier and cheaper to buy the whole assembly rather than try to just replace the mirror. If you go to a junkyard and buy it there they will show you how to do it.
It is 10 mm.
