My 98 sierra will start and run for about 2 seconds and die. it wont stay running. we have tried a new secerity pass code computer. and tried to clear and reset the computer i cant find anything else wrong. if anyone has any answers please let me know i NEED help!
is everything all plugged in. check under the hood and check everyplug you see. Mine did the same thing. I was told to check everything. Twice. I did and skipped one thing that "looked good" and " what would that have to do with it" so When I was looking with someone else. It was the coolant sensor. would Idle for hour and touch the gas pedal it would die. so check everything. use masking tape. is everything all plugged in. check under the hood and check everyplug you see. does it have a b2960 security code set, i bet it does, it probably has a security problem and is going into fuel shut off, try replacing the ignition switch harness, this is 98% of the time the problem
You should not see any voltage after the 2-second prime until you actually start cranking the engine. If you don't see power on the grey wire when cranking, try jumpering across the fuel pump relay terminals
Theres only one fuel pump relay, unless you have dual tanks. Be sure you have 55-60 psi fuel pressure. I "think" the oil pressure switch supplies power to the fuel pump after the engine is running.
Does it start and die after 1-2 seconds or just cranks and never fires? Did it run before you installed the computer or are you trying to cure a no start problem?
