Starts with boost then car dies after 1 km and won't start

We have boosted it several times and then let it run for an hour. It started up again a couple hours later and drove around the block. Then an hour later it won't even turn over. So did the boost again and drove for about 1 km and it died while driving, now won't turn over again.

Once the car is started it runs off the alternator .. so even if your battery is bad the alternator will still run the car .. so it looks lilke your alternator is bad .. when you jumped the car you charged the battery a little but not enough to keep it going since the alternator is not charging . if you hook up a charger overnight then you might be able to run it long enough to get somewhere (garage) .. try to drive when you dont need lights .. those will run down the battery in a short time .. if you have a volt meter then the battery should read about 13.8 to 14.2 volts when the alternator is working properly (car running) .. if it reads lower (like 12volts or less) then the alternator is not charging .. some auto parts stores will test your system free ..

Car runs fine but at times it will die and have to boost to start

Sounds like alternator/generator could be bad and also battery could be bad.

My car starts only when boosted

Measure the voltage across the car battery with a volt meter with the alternator running .. It needs to read 13.4 volts or higher to charge the battery.

2006 Chevy Cobalt power dying with new battery in it, is it the starter?

If the car died while you where driving it, it sounds like it is the alternator. Did it start right up or did you have to boost it? If you had to boost it to start it again,I would say it is the alt., but if it started right away w/o a boost, it is something else.

Won't start from battery but starts from boost. Battery is okay starter is okay

Probably an intermittent ignition switch. Try start it by connecting a wire directly to the starter solenoid and touching it on the + of the battery. Ignition switch must be ON and be sure the car is NOT in gear.

Just shut off the care returned 2 hours later no go got a boost went for a drive left the car running for awhile than it start to get like it was going to stall went on g=for a littlwe while than died....

Hi your problem sounds like the battery is gone and won`t take a charge. When your engine is running the alternator is supplying the electrical power to run the car ( and normally charging the
battery as well )
Even though it seems strange for the battery to go suddenly, it does happen.
How old is the bat. Most last about 5 years with normal driving ( batterys last longer if the car is used every day )
Anyway i hope i have been of some help to you.

Im experiencing a power problem. My battery light was on, n later my car wouldnt start. I had to have it boosted off but it died a mile later.

It appears that your alternator is not charging so that the battery has been totally discharged. A boost start got you going again but with no charging as you drive it was only a matter of time for any slight charge to be used up. To get you going again temporarily have another vehicle give you a boost but leave their vehicle connected for at least 15 minutes with their engine running at a fast idle. This shiuld give you about 1 hours running providing you dont turn off the engine. Have the alternator output checked by an auto electrician.

Have a 1991 or 1995 Intrepid and car died, tried to boost the car gave it power than died, we noticed corrosion on the posts so cleaned the posts. (Noticed lights and power was coming back on when...

did it stay running when connected to the car giving the boost? if so then the alternator is not charging the electrical system, get it serviced or replaced.
