I have a 1998 dodge neon that kicks when cranking , but will not start. The timing belt is not broken as I can see the cam turn through the inspection plug. I tried changing the wires, plugs, coil. I have changed the fuel pump and relays in fuse box. Swap fuel pump relay with same relay. I have change the computer and cam sensor and still no start.
I do not have a scanner that can read data streams so I do not no about the crank sensor. I also have not installed a noid lamp to see if injectors are firing , but I do smell raw fuel.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Well it sounds to me as if the timing bet as jumped its time, mabe not much a tooth or two. but thats all it would take to make the car want to start, but it wont let the car fire properly.
The timing belt may not be broken, but is it missing any teeth, sounds like it has jumped timing,i would remove the cover and inspect it real good.

belt could get old and skip teeth. of course the cam will still be turning when viewed thru insp plug. does your data monitor read something that says cam/crank insync? the display will read a yes or no answer to that question( if you have it). if the answer is no it will never start. that indicates a skipped belt. if it indicates yes and your unit shows an rpm reading while cranking(200 rpms or so) that means the crank sensor is good as well as good belt.
after changing clutch, engine will turn over but won't start, changes crank sensor and pickup coil.
we changed fuel pump distribiter coil and crank sensor and the injectors are not firing
