02 will turn over but won't start - 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

what do you mean won`t start. it won`t turn over or it turns over but won`t start or it will run for about 2 seconds then stop?

Have you checked the fuses for power ?

Had a car do that before and it was the injector on a throttle bodied 4tec. my check your injectors. First place I would start.

How old & what condition is the battery,on an LS
they only seen to last 4.5 years

Try only one Ford- approved PATS key that is programmed & you know has been working & nothing else nearby, such as a key chain
with other objects


Does the LED indicator flash rapidly or glow steady for 3 seconds,
with key in Run or Start ,if so, you got problems & will need a scan tool to get the codes,not a code reader.


Does the starter turn over the motor?


Need at least 2 keys programmed to system


You got at least 7 fuses to check on 2 of the 3
junction blocks (fuses)

If you can get it going some how, Like buy boosting it, Most auto parts supply stores ,Have testers end will check it out for you,No charge for doing it for you.

codes p 0300 is random misfires and codes p0301,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 are the cylinders that are misfiring
so un you statement the problem cylinders are 1 and 2
misfires are normally problem injectors and low fuel pressures so have the fuel pressure checked to make sure that the pump is running correctly, the pressure regulator is operating correctly ans the EVAP system is venting the tank correctly
use a couple of injector cleaner in the tank to clean the injectors

Closed loop the ECM is using the feedback from the 02 sensor, open loop the ECM ignores the 02 sensor, this is a emission strategy on the vehicle, has nothing to do with the car not starting.

go to the back of the truck near the gas tank and listen for the pump to run while some one turns the key to the on position not Start but on. If you do not hear the pump it is probubly bad.
