Hello. It seems the torque converter in your car is malfunctioning/defective; if your car has an automatic transmission. If your car has a manual transmission, the 'clutch', 'pressure plate' and 'throw-out bearing' must be removed and replaced. Malfunctioning torque converters for automatic transmission vehicles and clutches for manual transmission vehicles will cause them to 'jerk' while driving and 'stall' the engine because they won't engage and disengage like they are supposed to. Most have a seperate crank to open and close top in case of an emergency ....If you have checked all fuses,relays,..etc..and know motor is broken you can remove the drive from the motor and raise it manually by hand with an assistant on the other side..
Release both motors, remove the plastic cover located in the middle of the top inside. Put a hex bit in your cordless drill and unscrew in reverse until the top latches are released from the top.
Then it basically takes two people to fold back the top. Unfortunately with a fully automatic top you likely won't be able to engage the tonneau so don't plan on driving on the highway.
Hi, Acura and Honda have a KNOWN Issue w/the Torque Converter in the Automatic Transmission. Very likely you'll need to have it rebuilt....may be cheaper to trade it in on a newer car.

you need to trade car it will always be trouble. pcm/ecm is for a automatic trans and though it works it is not right and will always have engine light on due to trans sensors no longer present. the top problem can get expensive just to diag. the system can take hours even days with the vw scan tools, with out the scanner its very hard to repair because of how system works.

Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System
The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of PARK position. The system consists of the following components:
• The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
• The automatic transmission park lock solenoid
• The automatic transmission shift lock control switch
• The transmission range switch
With the ignition in the ON position, battery voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The circuit continues through the normally-closed switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The transmission range switch provides a path to ground for the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid in the PARK position. With the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid energized the shift lever is mechanically locked in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open, de-energizing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. This allows the shift lever to move from the PARK position. When the shift lever is out of the PARK position the controlled ground contacts in the transmission range switch open. This prevents the automatic transmission shift lock solenoid from energizing when the vehicle is out of the PARK position.
It would help if you said it was manual or automatic. Since it would be clutch and not transmission on a manual, then I must assume it is an automatic. But even in an automatic, when you start out you are already in 1st gear, so it can not be anything to do with shifting. Therefore I suspect you have a problem with the torque converter. It could be locking up some how, either from a bad bearing or a lock up mechanism coming on too soon. Sorry, but can't think of a way to test or fix it other than a tranny expert. I believe tapping the brakes is supposed to unlock a locking torque converter, so you could try that. not hard enough to stop the vehicle, but just to see if it disengages.
Unless you converted a standard shift truck to automatic there should be an open leg on the vacuum hoses on top of the engine. Take off the air cleaner and look for it on the upper rear of the intake manifold. If you can't find it get a short length of hose and start the engine. Hold the hose to your ear and search the top of the engine for the sucking sound the open fitting or hose will make. If you did convert a standard shift to automatic just "T" into the existing vacuum hose and run a new line. You need straight manifold vacuum. Good Luck!
open the gear shift from in the car and you should shh the locking bar that stops the gear lever from being moved when the brake pedal isnt pressed have you any more details also is the battery dead when your trying to move it
The convertible top motor and release lever are in the luggage compartment. From the Bentley manual, the following general procedure is suggested in order to close the top in an emergency situation. Main motor. To release the top linkage from the motor, lift the left corner of the rear seat to access emergency release handle. It is then possible to push the top manually to a near closed position. In case of the semi-automatic top, simply attach and lock the front latches. Front latches. Once the fully automatic convertible top has been released from the motor and manually pushed to near-closure, emergency latching of the top is possible by using the S-shaped hex key provided in the emergency tool kit(attached to the trunk lid underside). First, remove the the plastic cover over the latch motor in the front bow of the convertible top. Next, use the hex key from the tool box to crank the front latches shut.
