SOURCE: Replacing the front brake caliper on a 1999 Ford Escort

Very simple. Have the proper tools for one. Two...lay cardboard down because the brake dust will make some cruddy marks on the pavement. Three...are replacing the WHOL:E caliper or just replacing/resealing the piston?

Very simple to do, just make sure you block the rear wheels or front (depending on which one you are doing).

Unbolt the two carrier bolts, one upper and one lower. These are commonly hex head or "allen" head fastners. Next, have a small container under the hose you will be disconnecting. I hope you have some help to bleed.....you will need to do so. Get the extra brake fluid ahead of time....that's all you need to do really...and once you unblot and disconnect, the brake caliper should be sitting in your lap!

SOURCE: How to replace front brake pads for 1991 Ford

Yes, if you do not have the right tools it would be better to have it done by a mechanic.

In case you want to do this yourself you will need to:

1. With your lug wrench, loosen the lugnuts...just LOOSEN them do NOT remove them!

2. Jack the car up until the wheel is off the ground and brace the car with a jackstand...NEVER rely solely on the jack!

3. Remove the lug nuts and remove the wheel from the rotor.

4. Remove the caliper; this is done by removing the two bolts that hold it to the car.

5. Inspect the rotor, unless it has deep gouges in it you should not have to replace the rotor.

6. Remove the pads from the caliper and clean the caliper...do not use compressed air to clean the caliper...the brake dust will go everywhere and you will breathe it in and that is never a good thing! I use BrakeKleen to clean my calipers. The new pads will come with a small container of "grease", this is for the back of the pad where it contacts the caliper; it quiets brake noise....DO NOT PUT THIS STUFF ON THE PAD ITSELF!!!

7. With a C-Clamp, push the piston in the caliper into its housing...you have to do this; if you don't then when you try to install the caliper with the new pads, they won't fit!

8. Once the piston is pushed in, install the pads and place the caliper on the rotor.

9. Bolt the caliper back to its mount.

10. Put the wheel back on and install the lugnuts.

11. Remove the stand and lower the car to ground.

12. Repeat the sequence for the other wheel.

SOURCE: how take off pins not bolts on caliper 87 Ford Ranger front brake

The pins / wedges just tap out use a scewdriver on the metal edge of the pin just tap it out to the rear and when putting them back in just tap them back in from the front. You will see they are diamond shape and metal cased around rubber very easy to do just take your time.

How do I remove and replace the front rotors on my 2004 V6 Ford Taurus

You must remove the brake caliper first then there should be a nut with cotter pin that holds it to the shaft some have a cotter pin some do not, but there should be a nut holding it on, remove nut slide rotor off, pack new bearings with grease then slide new rotor on, install nut and brake caliper, you may need to press caliper piston back in if it is too tight on the new rotor, use a c clamp to press piston back in.

I have replaced the front brakes and right front 98 ford tarus.

typically if you pump the brakes and it gets harder by each pump the master cylinder is good.Check all calipers for leaks, and rubber hoses..still no signs of leaks then open the bleeder screws on both front calipers and let them drip for about 15 minutes, and keeping the resivoir full of fluid..tighten the bleeders and pump them up..hopefully they work and all it was is a little air in them still.

How to replace front brake pads for 1991 Ford Taurus? Rotors probably need replacing as well. If I have no tools, is it cheaper to just have it done by a mechanic?

I guarantee you it would be cheaper to by tools and do it yourself. You don't need anything considered a "special" tool.

I posted the steps to replace both the pads and rotors for you as well as the cost for your parts:

Pads---$13.99 for the set (does both sides)

Rotors-- $23.99 each

Next post is the steps for it all.

The front passager side brake got locked frequently. Wheel is hot

If you open the brake fluid bleeder on that caliper you should have brake fluid dripping out. If not it could be the rubber flex hose has collapsed. If fluid drips out then the caliper is sticking and should be rebuilt or replaced.

Dragging right front brake

Then it it most likely something other than the caliper, like maybe the master cylinder or some brake line problem it your problem is only on one brake. I assumed that you changed the pads and rotor as well (and did both sides at the same time) Rick

Ford taurus 1998 brakes

it could be two things: you have a bad check valve in the master cylinder or the calipers themselves are bad
