I have a 2001 Chrysler concord Lxi 3.2 . I have had an over heating problem since I got the car so I have replaced the thermostat, water pump, cooling fans, radiator cap, radiator, and it still over heats. other than the over heating the car runs perfect it only has 94,000 miles on it. It has taken me 8 months to do all of this work I live on SSI and cant afford anything big its my first car and i'm 38 years old. I was so excited to of gotten it to begin with but everytime I think this time it will be fixed its a huge let down to drive it and have it over heat i only drive it down the street cuz at the half way mark it would start to boil over. I had someone run the codes check on it, and this is what it said P0455 Evap Emission system leak and P0303 cylinder 3 misfire. Please help me figure this out if it turns out to be an expensive fix I probably wont be able to pay for it, and it will be back to walking for me. : (

You need to check For cooling fan operation. It may be a temp sensor problem (Fan relay signal) or a bad relay. A SIMPLE TEST would be to turn on the A/C, the cooling fan should run continuous in this position. The fan should run intermittently Relative to Coolant Temp. in all other positions. Check for voltage (14v ) at fan motor harness connector . If voltage is present at the fan motor connector then most likely a bad fan motor. The temp switch ( Fan Relay signal) is located in the thermostat housing or the radiator. This engine is prone to head gasket failure so do not overheat during testing procedures.

try to run the water pump without hoses, and add water in the 'in' side, if is powers out the other side, then it's fine. how is your water/coolant mix?

SOURCE: code p0455 evap emission (large)

have the gas cap tested or just replace it, then disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the code, then drive it for a few miles and see if problem comes back, if it does a trip to the dealer is in order, as this may be covered by your emission warranty which is good for 70,000 miles.

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

Check vacuum lines going to evap canister for cracks or splits, causes to much raw air intake.

Make sure the pump's belt is correctly installed. If it is double check thermo stat make sure its the correct one and properly installed. If thses items are A-ok then you have nothing to loose by having a repair shopdo a transfusion with a mfluid exchanger. You may have a blockage .If it is air lock other than getting a pressure tester that the dealers use to remove air lock the cheap way outis to run the car for an hour without the cap on It can't over heat cause there is no pressure and you'll see the steam vent out.

Coolant leak

I'm not sure where the water pump is located on the 3.2 but it may be a bad seal in the water pump. If it is the water pump will need to be replaced. You might also check bottom radiator hose, it may be leaking. Also check the thermostat housing for leaks.

Problem with this is that it could be a number of things, have ur water pump checked, open the radiator and see if there is water running through it, a bad or plugged thermostat, in this case it does sound like a blown head gasket. id suggest flushing the radiator with some cleaner that u can buy at the store and check n see if ur thermostat is stuck, hope for the best and expect the worst

Car overheating -

Hi,
If you didn't change the thermostat, I would recommend doing so. They can stick and deny or restrict water flow through your engine. They're easy enough to replace and inexpensive. Make sure you get a new gasket with it.
Hope this helps... Good luck!
