start in middle and work outwards alternately ,bolt torque 80lbs and pull down if three passes ,speed key --rachet- torque wrench .although iam posting this i never use a torque wrench i go by the feel of the bolt stretching ,make sure heads have been checked and skimmed before refitting
Remember the head bolts are not reusable. They are stretched, not torqued.I can't post illustrations here but the pattern can be found at LR’s service website, www.landrovertechinfo.com (you can register for free). The bolts are tightened to a light torque of 15 foot pounds, then turned through two angles of 90 degrees each.
looks like there is special sequence to reassemble and tightening, a quick note replace any bolts that have two punch marks.tighten as follows:
10 4 2 6 8
7 5 1 3 9
torque all down to 15 ft lbs
torque to 30 ft lbs
plus 90 degrees.
Good luck!

According to my haynes manual for Landrover 200tdi, G - S reg,1989-1998 it goes as follows,
Stage 1:- Tighten all bolts to 30lb ft or 40Nm then
Stage 2:- Angle tighten a further 60 degrees then
Stage 3:- Angle tighten a further 60 degrees again.
According to my haynes manual for G-S reg, 1989-1998 it goes as follows,
Stage 1:- Tighten all bolts by hand until bolt heads just contact cyl. head.
Stage 2:-Tighten all bolts to 40Nm or 30lb ft.

Hope this helps everyone, sorry it seems longwinded but that is how it's written in the manual.
