Car takes a long time to start after parked for 8hrs or more

I have a 1989 oldsmobile delta 88 v6 3.8L with 412000k (free car from sister). Now I am not to smart when it comes to cars so be gentle. When the car has been parked for a while,I'll go out and turn the car over and it will crank and it sounds fine. However, it doesn't fire up it almost seems like the fuel isn't getting there, I have to crank and crank and crank, push down on the pedal a few times and then crank and crank till it finally sounds closer and closer to starting then it fires up. and I have to let it run for a while cause if I don't then it tries to die on me if i rev it or put it into gear. And the other thing is when I am trying to turn it over I can hear a huming comin from the back end, is that my fuel pump?Spark plugs work, fuel filter new, and regular visits to the oil lube guys.

It sounds like it could be the fuel pump wearing out, spinning more slowly, and therefore not generating the necessary pressure to deliver the fuel to the engine. The humming is most likely the fuel pump running (unless the engine is turning over at the same time -- in that case you probably wouldn't be able to hear it over the engine noise). Have you always heard this noise or do you think it is getting louder which now allows you to hear it? Charlie

The older car usually need few pump and hold the gas pedal down to turn over. The timing on these car very critical. if you can try to time it to exact what the manufacture spec, change to a better plugs, change all of the filter as they need it. The other thing is make sure all of the vacumm hose at good, not cracked or leaking. that should make car run better but never is going to be as good as new.

Good fun chasing this one down.... Died on the side of the road when my wife tried to lower the window. Would not restart. She could not raise the windows before she walked home. Car restarted 5hrs later, but died when my buddy hit the turn signal. Towed it home. Again no windows. Door locks would only unlock with the Ign. on, but worked normally ign. off. Window controls will only dim out the interior lights Ign. on or off. Seems like a bad ground. Oh yea No fuel PSI... and seat controls worked before the last restart, but dead now. Where the F is the ground for all these... Or is it the PCM? (black box behind the glove box?) I know it controls the door locks, but what else? Yea I need a service manual with a good wiring diagram. Any help would be great.

were yours the same if so can you please help me give me the steps that you took to fix your problem thanks or email at [email protected] thankyou
